Fireflies: AI notetaker
Ratings & Reviews
The app itself is fantastic. I has great learning, it’s incredibly easy to use. The notes are pretty accurate, even with a preponderance of scientific and medical jargon. Honestly, my ONLY complaint with the app itself is that you are unable to edit conversations and notes. For that, you need to be on the online version on your computer. Add that feature to the iPad and phone, and it’s 5 stars all the way!
Hands down the best purchase I’ve ever made. My memory isn’t perfect so this has been so useful for my personal and professional life. And I LOVE that you get your recordings immediately, compared to Gong which takes 2-4 business months 😂. JK but if does take at least an hour, sometimes 4, which kills any follow up meetings. The integrations are rock solid and helps with my tech stack in my business.
I wish there was a good tutorial that came with the subscription, it’s really a shot in the dark knowing if it’s working correctly or not. Would also like to have video of both people in the zoom call, unfortunately it’s only the person that’s doing the talking is being videoed.
I’ve reviewed and/or tried at least 8 note-taking apps for my company. This is the one I’ve chosen to use, primarily because it’s the only team-enabled system I’ve found with full commitment to company data privacy. There are lots of things I dislike about this app, primarily how difficult it is to access and share a meeting transcript with my team (both human and ai). I also have found it difficult to control which meetings it adds itself to - it shows up for meetings I don’t want it in, and doesn’t show up when I do. I hope to figure this out, probably will, but their onboarding flow regarding this crucial privacy-related matter leaves much to be desired. Yet I continue to use this since I have not found better options. I would actually rate it at three stars, in terms of usability, but it’s the one I’ve chosen out of all competitors so… it gets a 4.
I used Fireflies a year or so ago and it was pretty good back then. It’s come a long way since with all the features it has now. Voice transcription has become a somewhat level playing field since AI everything blew up this year, but there are still some that do it better than others. It does a great job with that, so the thing that makes it stand out for me is the look and feel and ease of use. It’s satisfying to use and pleasant to look at. What’s more, their customer service is some of the best I’ve come across. The interaction I had left me feeling that the company values integrity as much, if not more, than profits, which is sorely lacking in many SaaS companies today. It’s certainly a human quality I want a company in the domain of transcribing and storing conversations to genuinely value.
I have only one issue… I am the risk manager for a hospital and to be able to use this app for work meetings I need to know that recordings and summaries are not stored on your servers, and that the app is compliant with the HIPAA standard, otherwise I would be committing a crime every time i used this app and a patient’s name was mentioned in the meeting. Other apps like this advertise HIPAA compliance in their description. Look into it, because this app is exactly right. In a sea of similar apps this one does exactly what I need it to. It’s uncanny how it can identify speakers by name purely from listening to the recording. Just press record and then forget it - interact in the meeting without needing to take notes, then when the meeting is done you get a perfect summary, nicely formatted, and concise. Really like this…
The AI itself is an interesting and potentially useful tool, but the whole concept is completely ruined because it forces you to login with a federated Microsoft or Google ID, and then invites itself to join every meeting on your Microsoft or Google calendar. This has the side effect of jumbling all your personal meetings and work meetings into one account where everything is saved and accessible by your coworkers. (Maybe I don’t want my coworkers to access a recording of me chatting g with my kids, you know?) Once you discover this problem and try to migrate the account to a separate ID, it requires a manual human assisted migration process which raises a whole additional host of problems and errors. Now I have one random jumble of personal and business recordings on one account and another whole random jumble of other personal and business meetings on another account. I stupidly paid for a full year of the tool in advance because I was dazzled by the AI features the first few times I tried it. Don’t make that mistake, sample this clunky service for a few months at the monthly rate first before you commit. Better yet, look elsewhere for your meeting AI tool. (Microsoft teams is slowly adding copilot features that do everything this tool does anyway.)
Have been using for a couple of weeks and required an initial learning curve to tweak settings to ensure Fred (ai assistant) only showed up at the meetings I want him to. It is a great tool for producing minutes of our team meetings; just a quick proof read and adjustment and they were ready to share. Had an issue with transcription of one meeting that failed and had to use extra credits to get the summary and notes prepared but that was the only time it didn’t perform as expected. I’m a fan!!
This cannot be used at all without granting access to your calendar which is a major privacy concern. I decided to try it and granted it access to my junk email account’s calendar. The performance was middling at best and it failed to process my very short (15 minutes) conversation. I will say that eventually the job did go through and I viewed it via a link to my email. It’s certainly not worth granting access to my main calendar when there are other apps that are more capable and less insistent on being creepy. The only way I would use this again is if I could do so without granting calendar access.
Wonderful tool for transcribing audio, and making the spoken word searchable. I’m a longtime paid web user and happy an app was launched. While optimized for videoconference calls, I use this for transcribing Voice Memos I record of lectures, live panels, and Q&As. I’ve built up a searchable, shareable, exportable database of thoughts and things I’ve heard. As others have pointed out: don’t put too much trust in the in-app recorder. Instead best to import audio files via share sheets from Voice Memos or other recorders, which it handles well.I wish they would chill on the bloated interfaces, and focus on rock-solid speed, search, and readability. We are talking about text here: the oldest content on the web.And focus the AI elsewhere please. I don’t need to chat with a transcript of my chat, but I would love if Mr. Fred could ascertain the names of of everyone in audio uploads.
