Great instrument.

Still learning how best to use this, but I’m enjoying at least knowing the depth and structure that I’m fishing. Having never had a sonar (or a boat!), I’m not aware of all the limitations, and it seems to work well for me as a shore fisherman. I know now where some deeper spots are that I can cast to - I find that I can only cast the sensor about as far as I can cast. It loses connection sometimes, but I think that if it stops for a more lent, it reconnects.

The first couple of times I went out I dedicated a rod to it, but lately I just carry it in my shirt pocket. It’s light enough. I use 10-pound test, and it seems secure. It’s sort of a trick to cast it far if you’re not used to that much weight. I probably get about 75-80 feet.

Fun product, thanks.

Not worth the price

For $200 it’s not worth the price. It does not work under 3-4ft of water. Connectivity to phone is choppy at times, especially when you’re in an area of poor phone reception. It does not map nor save depth charts for you even after you scan a lake. You can see the depth as you’re boating around, but it doesn’t save nor add it to the maps on the app. The fish detection does appear accurate at times as I’ve caught a few fish when it says there are fish. The app features are very basic and not much options are available to switch between. The ball itself is way too heavy to cast unless you have a heavy rated rod with very strong line. This now requires you to carry 1 additional rod when you’re shore fishing. Battery life is very good, but your phone battery will drain quickly because it needs to be on consistently with max brightness in order to see it while you’re outdoor. In conclusion, for half the price it’s decent, but I wouldn’t buy it for full price. I bought mine for 32% off and still decided to returned it.

Developer Response ,

Hi there, thanks for your review! Sorry to hear about the issues you had. I'm sure those issues can be fixed.
1. The Deeper does work under 3-4ft of water, as long as you enable narrow beam in the settings on the left side menu. All sonars in the world need a minimal depth to work. With narrow scanning beams sonars need less actual depth to work.
2. Connectivity is not affected by poor phone reception. You can use the Deeper even if there's no cell service at all. Something else is affecting your connect. Be sure to check out these tips, they'll definitely help: https://deepersonar.com/us/en_us/manual/maximizing-connectivity
3. Make sure you are using Boat mode when creating depth charts. You can view your depth charts via the History of the app, or on the main screen as long as you're no further than 6 miles way from the lake.
4. No sonar in the world has accurate fish detection algorithms. But you can interpret fish with almost 100% accuracy by turning off fish icons. Fishes will appear as arches or lines, and you can tell the size of the fish based on the thickness of the arc. You can read more about it here: https://deepersonar.com/us/en_us/how-it-works/how-to-read-fishfinder
5. Indeed, the Deeper can be heavy to cast. A heavy road and thick braided line is recommended.
6. The Deeper uses Wi-Fi of your phone as well as GPS, so yeah, it can use up the phone battery. You can carry a portable battery to charge up your phone.

Dreadful

Want to risk a private waterway’s privacy? Create an account and boat/gps scan it. Anyone will then be able to view its location with your depersonalized data. So sure, it’s not your exact scan, but the location is given away…I even see a dirt access road traced out; which is insanely weird, because it was named… along with the body of water (both of which are nameless on any other map you could possibly find). Someone created bogus information... And apparently, you need to “own” the land to have blue pin removed from global maps… I need to text owner to inform them their property is at risk. Essentially a scheme to give away locations to all the grubs who pay, or scan their way into Premium. Another thing is; nowhere do they mention guest mode keeps your scans off global maps, I found that in here as a response to someone else’s review. Never making an account would be your best bet if you happen to have a honey hole. All I can really do is chuckle though, most people would be fooled by the fish in the spot I scanned. They know who’s boss.

Thank you for your review!

If the pond/lake scanned is private, and the owner does not want us to share the bathymetry, as you have mentioned yourself - owner can always contact us, provide the proof of ownership and the bathymetry will be removed no questions asked. If you believe that the owner of water mentioned does not want bathymetry of his lake displayed - feel free to inform him, that he can contact us at support@deeper.eu to resolve this :)
The visibility of the lake on the map itself is based off the open source map material, it has nothing to do with whether some lakes were or were not scanned, such data is accessible to anyone online.
You are also correct with a guest mode. This mode does not require having an account, with a cost of no possibility of synchronizing your sessions. In that case none of your scans will end up in Premium bathymetry.
