Simple but works, useful watch/phone app

This app lacks a lot of the features of the fancy workout log apps, but it makes up for it by getting the job done with no fuss. You enter the name of the exercise, choose which muscle group it affects, and what you want to track (time, weight, reps, or a combination of any or all).

You can build a workout on the fly, or plan it out before you go to the gym. You can enter as many exercises as you want in a workout, including the weights, reps, and times, and then mark them completed as you do them. You can create supersets (grouped sets), and add rest periods if you are building your own HIIT sessions.

If you use an Apple Watch for your workouts, you can use the watch app to adjust the actual reps, weights, and times spent on each exercise. This gets tedious if you don’t fill in expected amounts before working out, since the crown wheel is used to adjust those numbers, and weights are measured in 1lb increments. It’d be nice if there was a way to quickly increase/decrease these amounts. You can also pull out the phone and enter numbers there, and it will sync with the phone and vise versa.

This app doesn’t include pre-built workouts or coaching, but the apps that do typically have recurring monthly charges that can add up to over $100 per year in some cases.

This does what I need, and has a clean but useful watch app. I’m very happy with it, especially considering the cost (or lack thereof).

Simple & easy to use

I’ve been using this off and on for the past few years & have enjoyed watching it grow. The devs continue to update and add/update better features. Some may be locked to the PRO paywall, but none of the essential features are gated. I unlocked the pro version a long time ago. I don’t think I’ve used a pro only feature though lol

Creating sets/super sets is very easy whether they are rep based/timed/ or a mix of both. It might take a little bit to get used to the first time around, but it’s straightforward enough that you can set up a workout in the first 15mins or so.

*The only thing that is a little tricky and takes some testing is setting up HIIT sets/supersets because of needing to keep track of all your rest intervals and properly executing them throughout the workout.

Developer Response ,

Thank you for taking time to review the app! We've been deep in the trenches with 4.0 ever since the pandemic started. Hopefully, it will more than make up for the PRO purchase. All the best!

The best I’ve found

I have tried every single strength training app that is currently in the App Store. Everyone fell short except for this one. I am a graphic designer, so even though some people may not think it affects the functionality of the app, the look of it is extremely important to me. Fitsession looks beautiful, is intuitive, flexible, and the watch app is the easiest to use of all the others.

Also, I had a question and emailed the developers. I received a response from Alex within 24 hours. This is very rare compared to some of the response times of other developers... this tells me he cares about the people using his app. Thank you for that.
