FLARMINGOS is a project of artist Kristin Lucas, produced through a Tech Residency at Pioneer Works in Red Hook, Brooklyn, and made in partnership with Tour du Valat research institute in Arles, France. FLARMINGOS are virtual representations of wild flamingos the artist has adopted. They are animated by human motion capture and a dynamic flocking algorithm that influences their collective behavior.

The shared reality feature requires a cellular or Bluetooth/Wi-Fi network and supports collaboration for up to 6 app users per flock, contingent upon network strength.

Performs best in a well-lit space.

The app is compatible with the Apple iPhone 6s and higher, Apple 9.7-inch iPad (5th and 6th Generation), Apple 10.5-inch iPad Pro, and Apple 12.9-inch iPad Pro. The app runs on iOS 12.

It’s ok

The flarmingos app is ok I’m not sure why but it doesn’t really work on my phone and i don’t know if it will stay like that forever but if I could do more with it I would say that this is a good AR game

Am I doing it wrong?

When I opened the app and clicked all the things I saw and buttons music turned on, nothing else until I say start a flock I clicked that and it told me the name of my flock I mean I would like to name it then it said look at the ground and move and touch the ground to start a flock I clicked okay to what it told me to do it didn’t do ANYTHING I had a black screen and stuff telling me to look at the ground it wasn’t specific telling me to point my device at the ground or something else if I’m doing it wrong or doing the wrong things I’m sorry because what made me think I did it wrong is because I see other reviews with t stars so maybe some people know how to do it, please respond.

Hi GOLDTATTERCHIPS. Thanks for your comment. If you are seeing a black screen it's possible you have an iPhone model that is incompatible with ARKit 2.0. The app should work on iPhone 6s or higher. Once the app loads you should be seeing what camera sees on your screen with the app icons overlaying the camera view. You will first be prompted to look around to detect the ground plane. Once the ground plane loads, an icon with a hand appears indicating that you can touch the screen to place a flarmingo in your environment. The two flamingo head icon is for app users in close proximity of one another (standing in a group) who want to growing a flock together and see each other's flamingos being added. The shared reality feature requires that you have a cellular or Bluetooth/Wi-Fi network and supports collaboration for up to 6 app users per flock, contingent upon network strength.

Hi ClubCc. Thank you for trying my app. I love that you were super excited about it. I am sorry that you had a negative experience. Your feedback is greatly appreciated. Once the app loads you should see what camera sees on your screen with the app icons overlaying the camera view. The app should work with iPhone 6s or higher which is a hardware requirement for this type of Augmented Reality. If you see the camera view, you will be prompted to look around so that your phone can detect the ground plane and know where to place the flarmingos. Once the ground plane loads, an icon with a hand appears indicating that you can touch the screen to place a flarmingo in your environment. The two flamingo head icon is for more than one app users in close proximity (standing in a group) who want to growing a flock together. The shared reality feature requires that you have a cellular or Bluetooth/Wi-Fi network and supports collaboration for up to 6 app users per flock, contingent upon network strength. I hope that you will be able to try the app again in the future and have a better experience.
