Another brilliancy from Paul Halter
Paul has been at the business of creating the perfect fly fishing sim for a long time. I have owned some of his earlier fly fishing programs (plus an ice fishing sim that was a hoot). He keeps improving. This newest version of the HD sim pulls you into the experience and, just like the real thing, you know there are other things you should be doing, but you make just one more cast. Then another... :-). When I saw his half price special to get the complete set of rivers, flies, rods and leaders, I jumped on it. Regarding rod behavior, as in real life, the more I have practiced casting, the better my control. One thing - it would be nice to be able to make reach, roll and puddle casts, but I suspect that would be a programming nightmare. One easy add-on though would be a depth range data for a stretch of river - to better choose strike indicator depth and split shot. You can see the speed of the water. But, in real life, you’d assess the depth by wading it or walking to different perspective points to estimate it. Small quibble. Buy the sim. Especially for iPad, where it shines. You too can be snatching brookies at 2am instead of sleeping.
Developer Response ,
Thanks for your feedback! I'll give some more thought to ways to help the angler estimate the depth at various sites. I might have the guide comment if a site is deeper or shallower than one would expect. I've been considering having the guide give site-specific advice based on other features of the site or the conditions, and that might be a good way to reveal a bit more about the depth in some cases.
Thanks for your support!
I love this game
They’ve done a great job with this game. Not only do you get to participate in your favorite hobby but it simulates fly fishing very well. It can be challenging and if your not putting your fly in the right place you don’t catch fish. I feel that it also helps teach you to see fishy spots, so you can use that on your local stream and become a better angler. Lastly, all of the river packs!! Wow! I wanted to travel this summer and C-19 put that on hold, but it’s all right here. World class fishing spots right here on your phone. So you can do a little research on your next outing/adventure. So cool, love this game. Week done! ..... oh yeah and NO ADS!!! You got to be kidding me. Download and enjoy! kids love it to and it gets them interested in the outdoors. My 7 yr old nephew is now more interested in fly fishing than Fortnite. I took him out a few weeks again and he got his first fish. I can see the positive nature of the sport growing in him and it’s awesome. Thanks to all the devs who created this game. It’s great on those blustery days to! I’m done
This is a rewrite of previous post: Good app, poor support.
I have apologized to the developer for the previous post. The problem I had was on MY end - it was not a fault with the app. While it did take a little longer than expected to receive a reply, (he had an issue with his email) Paul did reply and was very helpful.
I have found this app to be a blast! While there is a minor issue here and there, they are easily overlooked due to the sheer enjoyment in using the app.
Great scenery, great audio of the rivers and surrounding areas - and some beautiful fish to boot.
Thanks for a really good app, Paul. And especially for your patience regarding my mess up.
I’d give the app itself 4 stars, perhaps five. But the two-star rating is due to lack of communication from customer support.
I purchased a multi-river pack, but never received any download notification. I sent four separate emails to two different email addresses. All four attempts came back as undeliverable.
If the developer is experiencing a server issue, that is one thing. However, a note could have been posted on the app store that they were/are having server issues.
A refund would be appreciated.
