Description

Forfeit is an accountability app that takes your money if you don't complete your habits. We're based on the scientifically backed concept of Habit Contracts - popularised by Atomic Habits - that losing money is highly motivational.

Out 20k+ users have achieved a 94% success rate on over 75k forfeits, staking over $1m dollars.

HOW IT WORKS
1. Set your forfeit
Set the task/habit that you want to complete, when you want to complete it by, and how much you'll lose if you don't complete it.

2. Submit your evidence
Verify that you completed your habit using any of the methods defined below. This can be in the form of a photo, timelapse, self-verify, friend verify, GPS check-in, a web tracking limit, a Apple Health activity, a Strava run, a Whoop activity, a MyFitnessPal meal or anything else.

3. Or you lose money
If you don't send evidence in time, you lose money. This rarely happens - only 6% of forfeits fail. If you do fail, you can appeal the failed forfeit - we only want you to fail if it's a willpower issue, not if life gets in the way!

VERIFICATION METHODS
• Photo
Take a photo of the task that you completed, and an AI will verify if your photo matches your description.
Examples: At the gym, inbox zero, Duolingo completed, homework submitted, taking medication.

• Timelapse
Record a timelapse of you completing the tasks that you completed, and a human will verify if your photo matches your description.
Examples: Meditating, nighttime routine, stretching, working for 1hr.

• Self-Verify
Simply verify if you completed this task. No need for evidence!
Examples: No smoking, no drinking, no vaping, absolutely anything!

• Friend-Verify
Have an accountability buddy testify to whether you did or didn't complete a task.
Examples: No drinking, no phone in the house, no eating junk food.

• Apple Health
Set a threshold that you must cross in Apple Health (eg, 10,000 steps). Thousands of apps sync to this.
Examples: 10,000 steps, 20 mins meditation, 30 min bike ride, less than 2000 calories consumed.

• GPS Check-in
Set a GPS location that you must be within 100m of by the deadline.
Examples: Check into the gym, work on time, home by a certain time.

• GPS Avoid
Set a location that you won't be within a certain radius of at the deadline.
Examples: Not being at a bar on the weekends, leaving the house at a certain time.

• RescueTime integration
We sync with RescueTime, a web time-tracking app. You can use this to set thresholds on websites/desktop apps.
Examples: Max 30 mins on reddit.com, minimum 2hrs on VSCode, max 30 mins on gmail.com

• Pomorodo timer
This is a timer that if you click off, you fail.
Examples: Working for 30 mins, meditating for 20 mins, studying for 45 mins.

OTHER FEATURES
• X days/week: Set forfeits to be due a certain of times per week (eg, work out 3x/week)
• Certain days/week: Set forfeits only to be due on certain days (eg, weekdays, or Mo/We/Fr)
• Appeal anything: If you have to skip a submission, simply send in an appeal, and it'll be reviewed in a few hours by a human.
• Varying leniency modes: Depending on your leniency mode (lenient, normal, hard), you may or may not be required to justify your appeal with evidence. Hard mode doesn't allow appeals.
• Text accountability: If you fail, a text will be sent to your friends, letting them know that you failed.

Best Accountability App Out There

Accountability is necessary to keeping on track for this woman. If no one sees me skip the workout, did I really skip it? This app takes advantage of all the tracking information streaming from both my phone and my smart watch. So far the most useful feature is the gps location which I use for my gym routine. If I’m not there, I forfeit $. You set your own amounts and terms, so if you lose, it’s a commitment with yourself. I do hope this app becomes all the things it’s currently promising to become however, such as allowing payouts to charities and rival teams, and more integrations with other apps (like my meditation app and my sleep app). Right now, when you forfeit, it pays to the app which is OK but feels a little like the ref having a dog in the fight. You can pick your own leniency setting though, which means that you can set it up on the ‘honor system’ entirely (no $ loss) so if you’re not comfortable with even potentially losing money, you won’t. Since I started with this app I’ve not missed a single gym workout; there’s nothing like a notification from my CC to my wrist - zap zap - that I’ve been billed to make a commitment real. HA Sad that it takes this sort of gaming to keep me on track, but a good plan beats good intentions every damned day.

Lifesaver

If you have ADHD and/ or your sense of self accountability is nonexistent you need to download this app. DO IT NOW before your life ends up in shambles because you’re always late everywhere. Actually having external accountability that I can’t brush off or ignore because money is on the line has been invaluable, all thanks to this app. There’s plenty of verification methods which I appreciate and it’s actually checked by a human team. I mean yeah if you need to get verified and send a picture of yourself for proof it could feel a bit weird due to that, but there’s workarounds in order to make it work. And like I said there are many verification methods to use. The only thing is, the onus falls on you to get the work done and to actually stick to what you set up without cheating. That’s assuming you even set up forfeits for yourself in the first place to complete. Admittedly I still have trouble with not trying to find loopholes, but the app, at least, is helping me stay on track with my goals much better than if I wasn’t using it at all. Haven’t been charged for anything in error either so this app gets 5 stars

No need for willpower when there’s money at stake

I’m someone who doesn’t have a lot of willpower to do stuff. I have a tendency to use if up on little things and then run out of energy when I need to get important work done. This app is pretty much a way to get willpower out of the way when having to make decisions. When I go to work out, I don’t have to waffle over the decision, I just do it because I’ll lose ten bucks. Same for doing my chores or reading a book. The decision is pretty easy to make when there’s cash on the line. Having to not use up my willpower on small decisions has made it a lot easier to get real work done. I would recommend this app to anyone who feels drained by having to choose to do things. I rely on this app everyday to get things done, and I have no plans on stopping. The dev team is great and super responsive, and the app is updated on the regular. Way less complicated than it’s competitors, too. Super easy to use, and super easy to get things done!
