*** App Store Best of 2015 ***

Dozens of custom, multilayered photo effects unlike anything available on the App Store, ranging from basic color and tonal to authentic vintage film emulations, textured finishes, and painterly and artistic styles. Built with scientific precision by some of the most talented artists in the mobile photography community, these effects truly deserve the “Formula” accolade. Each is meticulously constructed from components that are expertly-crafted by renowned photographer Dirk Wuestenhagen and that themselves are fully-fledged effects in the traditional sense including textures, filters, gradients, adjustments, and much more. Each formula goes through a vigorous testing process to ensure compatibility with a wide range of scenes, subjects, and editing styles from landscapes and cityscapes to street photography and portraits.

Dozens of custom frames expertly-crafted by renowned photographer Dirk Wuestenhagen, which include high quality scans of vintage paper, worn fabric, weathered stone, and a multitude of other materials and substrates that are then refined, blended, and fine-tuned to perfection in an arduous post-processing regimen aimed at exposing naturally occurring character lines, blemishes, and impurities. Moreover, a great deal of attention is given to specific color tones within an overall limited spectrum of earthy hues that are deemed to work best with images.

One-tap Auto Adjust tool that automatically analyzes color and tonal levels in an image and makes adjustments accordingly, thereby producing professional results with no effort whatsoever.

Beautifully designed and streamlined UI that is intuitive and easy to navigate. A lot of thought and effort went into making the UI appealing to and accessible by users of all skill levels.

Edit your photos right from within your photo library with a fully-fledged photo editing extension that not only provides access to the full functionality of the main app, but also preserves your sessions, allowing you to pick up right where you left off the next time you edit the image.

Absolutely top of the line filter app

I absolutely love this app! Wish Stackables was available to users here in the USA. I’m concerned that there’s been no updates in quite some time. Have the developers abandoned this application??? It’s the only reason I can’t give a 5 star rating.

The best of filters...

Formulas and Stackables are my favorite filter apps. They can make all the difference in bringing out the nuance, mood and beauty of an image. I use these filters for the majority of my creations, and I, like so many other creatives, have been very, very sad and disappointed that Stackables is no longer being updated and available on the App Store, and that Formulas may follow. There have been many discussions in the mobile photography and art groups on Facebook regarding this as the apps are so widely used and loved. Every teacher of mobile art and photography I know, hundreds of artists, books regarding the subject, and numerous articles, have mentioned and recommended Stackables. With the continued influx of artists in this growing genre of mobile art and photography, both Stackables and Formulas would continue to grow in popularity. I’ve been wondering, can another developer not acquire Stackables and continue to develop it and keep it available? And why is it not worth continuing to develop? These apps are so much a part of my creative output, I’ve even considered no longer downloading IOS updates on my devices in order to insure I can continue to use them!

Transforms my artworks beautifully

I really enjoy playing with this app. It gives my artwork beautiful effects that would be very difficult to imitate by hand.

I also use Stackables, by the same app creator.

These kick up my artwork up quite a few notches, and with very little effort.

High resolution images.

If you like this, and you don't yet have Stackables, I recommend getting that app as well.

Building up layers gives you endless combinations.

I do that in Stackables.

But when I want a quick transformation, I use Formulas.

The other option is to take a variety of filtered images of the same photo, and tweak them in layers.

There are many apps you can use that have layers.

I know this review is about Formulas, but the other info I think is relevant.

This is the way I use this app.

I like to play around with layers of these images, combining them, and seeing what interesting things I can come up with.

Kicks up every image I have to an exciting and interesting image with creative textures and moods.

I use this app on my iPhone and iPad.

It works beautifully, and is easy to understand.

It's worth every penny and more!
