Free2Move carsharing is now available in Washington DC. Choose from hundreds of available Free2Move cars spread across the city for trips in and out of the District.

Registering is as easy as 1-2-3:

2. Provide a scan of your driver’s license and payment details
3. Drive

Free2Move cars are:

- Allow you to park for free in legal on-street parking, including at meters
- Fuel in the car is included
- Pay as you go per minute, hour, or day—no packages needed.
- Includes full coverage insurance
- Always just around the corner with up to 600 vehicles in the District!

Free2Move carsharing is simple:
1. Open the Free2Move app to find the available cars around you.
2. Pick a Free2Move car and reserve it for up to 30 minutes.
3. Unlock the car with the Free2Move app.

Cars are available for pick up within the boundaries of Washington DC, but can be driven and parked temporarily outside of the city boundaries.

Want to visit friends in Alexandria for the weekend? Weather just right for hiking in a national park? There's that concert in Baltimore you just have to go to? Take any of the available Free2Move cars for a trip. While outside of the home zone, the Free2Move car will be solely at your disposal. Just park the car on the Free2Move carsharing app, and unlock it once you're ready to keep on driving.

Altering Payment Method

Your whole system! Just got off the phone with one of your customer support representatives. The reason being, is that I called to change my payment method (expired card, different card, or a plethora of other reasons that might require this) several weeks ago, no response or call back. I also would like to note, ever other car sharing program, food delivery service, you pretty much name it... this can be all accomplished in mere minutes via their app platform. You all somehow missed the memo. Back to the subject at hand. So I called again, today, and after an short explanation of the issue and a brief moment of being placed on hold... the response was this. “Sir, in order to change your payment method a whole new profile would need to be created to include a different email.” 😳😳 My question then was, how do I know the current account will be deactivated? “Oh, once we see you have a new account, we’ll deactivate your old one.” 🙄🙄 This seems efficient. You will also note that I have not used this system since I first was told I had to call in to fix this. This poses obvious and glaring issues that I’m surprised were not addressed from the point of creation and launch of the app. I’ll just simply close and say disappointing on several levels. Also no, response required. Also, to ensure you guys are aware I’ll go ahead and post this as a review for your app so others may know not to use!

Glitchy and customer service is worst than terrible

For the third time already I've had issues with ending trips after renting one of these cars recently. I kept getting an error indicating that the "car is booting up, try again later" everytime I tried to end the trip. I ended up having to call the customer support number to have them end it on their end. However, the clock was STILL RUNNING during the entire time I had to wait to be connected to a customer service representative for them to end the trip. As a result, I was charged more money than I was supposed to for renting the car.

The agent then tells me I have to "call back" and speak to someone else in order to rectify any billing issues. I emailed customer support and told them about the situation and that I needed to be charged the correct amount for the trip. They still haven't responded to me after three days.

This company provides poor service with their glitchy malfunctioning cars and will overcharge you as a result of you being inconvenienced by their garbage technology. I would recommend people use another car sharing service or find other ways to get around.

Good concept but very glitchy

It’s good when it works. But often vehicles show up in the app but then are nowhere to be found once you get to the spot. I’ve been stuck several times because the vehicle was “booting up” and never would respond. Even customer service agents cannot connect to the vehicles. They are not located in DC so they have no idea what the geography is and often put you on hold to read the manual. If you can, I recommend using car2go which never happened vehicles that “fall asleep” and cannot boot up. I feel like there used to be tons of car2go vehicles but DDOT made them reduce their fleet to accommodate additional car shares. Honestly, I’m thinking of inquiring to DDOT about that because it really isn’t fair to push another service out of the city for one that is worse. Free2Move is the most expensive and least reliable car share in DC. They continually raise their rates while the technology continues to fail. If Zipcar and car2go can get their fleet in order, I don’t know why Free2Move can’t.
