Freerice is the fun and educational trivia game that lets you make a difference and get smarter — just by playing. With dozens of categories — from English vocabulary to famous paintings — you can quiz yourself on your favourite subject, and generate money to support the World Food Programme at the same time.

Here's how it works: as you play Freerice and answer questions right, ads appear on your screen. When you see one of these ads (if it is a commercial ad and you are eligible to see it), you trigger a financial payment to the UN World Food Programme (WFP) to support its work saving and changing lives around the world.

In the game, these payments are represented via grains of rice. The amount of money generated when you see an ad can vary, but overall, money raised on Freerice each day from every right answer is roughly equivalent to what the UN World Food Programme spends to purchase 5 grains of rice.

By playing, you are generating the money that pays for this rice. This money is used for many types of assistance — not just rice — depending on where needs are greatest. But regardless of the type of assistance, you can be sure that 100% of all funds generated on Freerice go to the World Food Programme, and 93.5% of every payment received by the World Food Programme goes directly to helping children and their families.

Freerice does not earn or keep any money it raises.

Love the App but a Bit Inconvenient

Love Freerice but some of the categories are too annoying. The categories Flags of the World and Identify Countries on the Map require you to complete the extra step of clicking on the image to see what it’s asking and then choosing the correct answer every single time; it dissuades users from doing those categories. There’s enough room for the image and the multiple choice options but they put in the extra step. Would love to see this changed so it’s easier to answer questions and donate money!

Should be more popular !

When I was in elementary school, we used to go on the desktop site and play freerice during our designated computer lab time. I think it is so great that this was pushed at a young age, but I only just found out about the app ! I wish I had known sooner about this app and I am sure many other willing participants are missing out simply based off of the lack of publicity for this app. I hope that more people can find out about the freerice app with the power of social media. Best wishes to this app and all the countries, states, cities, communities, and individuals in need of help from those who are more fortunate !

The power to make a change

From your bed, on your commute, during a lunch break, literally ANYTIME during the day it’s super easy to pop onto this app and make a difference! It may be small contributions but they really add up. A leaderboard is available to see what we have accomplished as a community, and your own ranking is provided as well. I suggest downloading this app mainly to help those in need, but also to help yourself. Learn new facts and bring calm into your life all well generating ad revenue used for a good cause!
