Simple and useful
I was looking for a fretboard diagram printer that lets the user choose what note each individual string is tuned to. I haven't found that (if anyone knows of one please let me know! Studybass is great, they need an app), and this app doesn't have diagrams. But if you're into alternate tunings and want to really learn one that's uncommon, you can't go wrong with this. It lets you choose the note for each string separately, and doesn't try in any way to force you to use a common tuning. Great for those who like a weird interval somewhere, or who take a common tuning and drop/raise it by a few.
I disagree with the disgruntled bassist who reviewed before me. True, you can't save a tuning unless you enter 6 strings. I am a mandolin player and only need to set 4 strings like them, so I set strings 4, 5, and 6 to the same note. If you're working with alternate tunings already, it's not much more to keep track of.
For "over- seasoned" guitarist this is invaluable!
I've been playing for longer than I'd like to admit and never immersed myself into the theory, math, and the beautiful language music is. Fret Notes is an excellent tool for teaching everyone the notes on the fretboard in a very natural way. It's one of the best educational tools I've ever seen regardless of subject and no matter the skill level. If you can count to 12, you're on your way. I can see why and how much I can immediately apply to my soloing & improv. I'm definitely going to embarrass myself, it's just gonna be less frequent. Excellent! Thank you developers and the people behind Fret Notes!
It would be nice if there was a reset option on the streak counter. I try all the fretboard learning apps that I can find. This one has worked the best for me because not showing you the fretboard forces you to visualize the fretboard in your mind. For me this is been the most effective method so far. Not having all of the other strings on the fretboard to distract you brings focus to your thought process. I am memorizing 10 times faster than any other app I have tried.
With Family Sharing set up, up to six family members can use this app.
