Description

Fun Sight Words includes all ten sight word lists from the Fry word lists, totaling 1,000 sight words. You can also create your own word lists and words!

You can trace the sight word, spell the sight words and there is even a hide and seek with the sight words. There is also a unique customization option so you can choose only those sight words your child is working on.

Trace the sight word is a great introduction to the sight words. It helps children learn the correct spelling of each sight word by tracing the sight words with letter tiles. Spell the sight word lets your child practice the correct spelling of each sight word by dragging letter tiles into the correct blank spots. Find the sight word provides an opportunity to recognize and read sight words that are hiding among other sight words.

One of the great features of Fun Sight Words is that you can customize the words your child is learning. Through a menu, you can pick as many or as little of the 1,000 Fry words your child is working on in school. It is a great feature for teachers to use in small groups to practice and review the words you are working on in class and for parents to reinforce what your child is learning in class. There are also 3 levels of play. Each level challenges your child by adding more letter tiles or words to choose from. A hint button has been added in case they get stuck.

Recently added is the ability to create your own word lists and add your own words. Perfect for expanding sight word repository, creating focused lists and customizing the experience for your child or student.

You can add an unlimited number of students and every student answer is recorded and can be reviewed in the results. Perfect for understanding progress and customizing learning plans for your child or student.

I am a reading specialist and thought this app would be great. I like how you can pick your own words from the word list and I like the format of the games. Unfortunately, there is one HUGE problem with this app and it would confuse my students to use this app based on that problem. I teach "sight" words as "trick words" that are phonetically irregular (in other words, they can not be sounded out). I teach my students NOT to sound out these words, as do all ten of the phonics based curricula that my school uses. This app gives the sound of the letters as you are spelling the words….for example with the word to, when you select the t it makes the sound /t/ and when you select the o it makes the short vowel sound of /o/ (as in the o in octopus)….those two sounds do NOT make the word to. Blending /t/ with the short vowel /o/ would make the word taw (rhyme with saw). This app would be wonderful except for this one flaw. But this flaw is big enough that it would go against everything we teach young readers about sight words, sounds, and blending.

Thank you for bringing up your concern. Since these are sight words and we want our students to know them by sight and not sound, we have removed the letter sounds when a student selects a letter. We have also made it so you can add your own word lists. That way you can target the individual needs of your students. You can keep track of each student by adding their name and then viewing their scores on the results page. We hope that you will consider trying the app again and letting us know about your experience.

No sound???

There is no sound on my game, so it is impossible to "find" all the words on level 3. You just have to take a guess at what word they want you to find.
Don't buy, waste of money!

Sorry for your frustration with the game. We have completely overhauled the sound, both the voice talent as well as the in-game cues. Also, the game was originally optimized for iPad even though it worked on iPhone. When different screen dimensions came out with iPhone X, the "find" sight words was hard to play. This has been fixed and works well on all Apple devices. Thanks for your feedback.

Good start

The app has 400 words. First time I used it, I'm finding words missing that my kindergartner and 1st grader are working on. "Laugh" as an example.

I like the fact that you can focus on words that you want to do, but the app needs improvement on the way you select your wordlist. The way it is now, you have to go through a painful process of flipping through four separate lists, very frustrating. Recommend a word search feature or if that is too hard, start with one long list in alphabetical order.

Also there should be a way to choose how many cycle to go through. Appears the app is going through wordlist randomly which is frustrating to kids that have to do a word they just did. App could go through one by one, and repeat words that were troublesome.

This is awesome feedback and we have released updates to many of the requests that you brought up. We now include all ten Fry word lists for a total of 1000 words. In addition you can now create your own word lists and words. To help navigate the lists we have added a search as you suggest. Additionally we go through all the selected words in the list rather than keep playing until the close the game. We appreciate your feedback and hope that the updates have improved your experience.
