Convert videos to high-quality GIFs.
It converts videos to GIF animations using fancy features for efficient cross-frame palettes and temporal dithering. It produces animated GIFs that use thousands of colors per frame.
- Video trimming
- Precise control of dimensions
- Copy, share, or drag the GIF
- System service
To convert, either:
- Drag and drop a video into the window
- Drag and drop a video on the Dock icon
- Right-click a video in Finder and choose Gifski in the "Open With" menu
- Select "Open…" in the "File" menu and choose a video
Gifski supports all the video formats that macOS supports (.mp4 or .mov with H264, HEVC, ProRes, etc). The QuickTime Animation format is not supported. Use ProRes 4444 XQ instead. It's more efficient, more widely supported, and like QuickTime Animation, it also supports alpha channel.
Tip: Change GIF dimensions with the keyboard—In the width/height input fields in the save panel, press the arrow up/down keys to change the value by 1. Hold the Option key meanwhile to change it by 10.
- Properly overwrite an existing file in "Save As…".
- Prevent the user from accidentally trimming the video to zero duration.
- Fixed some crashes.

Simple and superb
I make a lot of short screen recodings for my job that I need to turn into GIFs. I've tried a few apps, both free and paid. All of them were clunky, overly complex, slow, or produced ugly GIFs—or all of the above. Gifski is a breath of fresh air. It fits my workflow perfectly, it's fast, it offers just the configuration options I need, and the quality of the GIFs it produces is, somehow, almost as good as the original videos. And it's free! I can't recommend it enough, and I'll definitely be donating some money to support its development.
Five stars from an editor
So I was asked to design a ad in a gif format so I loaded into Final Cut Pro X created the animation then attempted to use multiple online tools and the colors were terrible (I take extra steps in my editing to make sure the colors are perfect) so I just didnt know if it was going to be possible to use an automated process to create my gif then I found this app colors looked amazing! Very easy to use, drag and drop the file and your set. Best gif converter I have ever used.
I've been looking for a simple high quality gif creator for sometime now. Gifski is simply the best when it comes to exporting high quality gifs bar none, for free. I do wish there was an option to crop your videos manually, more resolutions to play with and ability to adjust different parts of your video for export. Maybe a future update? Thanks for this folks.
