REAL USER EXPERIENCES
"During an overlanding trip in Utah, one of our group members was bitten by a venomous snake. 4 hours from the nearest hospital with no cell service, the app walked us through identification and first aid. The combination of medical expertise, offline functionality, and location-specific risk alerts makes GOES irreplaceable in my outdoor kit."
Richard, Overlander and Backcountry Explorer
“The assessment piece is so accurate. It literally asked the exact same questions that I would have asked as EMS. So, if you’re going to buy anything it should be that. I’m not even going to bother going through these wilderness medicine books anymore.”
Captain Rusty Rice, EMS & WFR Instructor

So I have a lot of fear when camping especially in areas where I know there are snakes and/or bears. I’ve done all the research to stay safe and avoid them, but you never know, ya know? Anyway, I downloaded GOES and it was the first time I was able to sleep through the night since I at least had the information I needed in case I unexpectedly encountered a woodland critter. The weather feature is pretty cool, too! I’m not really a sunscreen person, but when GOES tells me my area has a UV of 6 and I’ve got a high sunburn risk, you know I’m boutta slather up. This app is definitely a keeper.
No good!

There is something wrong with this app on many levels. The built-in medical advice is surprisingly limited. For example, look up bug bites and you'll find it very lacking. No info on chiggers for example, a common concern for those spending a lot of time outdoors. Overall, it is a pretty app but has very limited useful medical information. The app claims it does not collect any data that is tied to the user. However, their privacy policy seems to say otherwise. The app has features that only work if you provide precise location tracking. I do not have confidence that this location data isn't stored and shared with third-party companies. A medical app like this should have a simple privacy policy -- that NO personal data is stored or used in any manner (outside of things like contacting support about app issues). The hazards info (bears, ticks, etc) seems compelling, but in my use of it I found it inaccurate and therefore sort of useless. There are many new articles that are online only. Why would anything in this app be online only? It is VERY likely that anyone who actually needs the info this app offers would be out of cell range. The bottom line is that the CONCEPT of this app is compelling, but the implementation is lacking.
Helped with my rolled ankle
quaymorris
This app did me a solid when I recently rolled my ankle while out. Within two days my ankle was feeling extremely painful, though only under certain conditions. Using the app I was able to get an understanding of what I most likely had (mild sprain) and some tips on how to treat it since I was able to walk and stand on it normally. Really great companion to have when you’re out and can’t necessarily get to anyone quickly!
Developer Response
Hope your ankle is ok and glad we were able to help! Keep IT rolling!
So necessary in the outdoor space 🙏

I was recently on a hike in upstate NY and nearly stepped on a massive rattlesnake that came out of nowhere — as I stopped in my tracks and waited for it to hopefully pass, I went to GOES as quickly as possible. Thankfully I was able to figure out all the steps I needed to take in case I was not as lucky. It was so easy to find next steps in this (almost) emergency situation, this app is absolutely necessary for the outdoor industry!
Developer Response
Wow, that sounds like quite an intense and scary situation. As avid hikers ourselves, we know how unsettling it can be to experience a close call like that, especially when you're far from help. It's extremely rewarding to know that in a moment of crisis, the information provided in GOES allows you to quickly figure out the steps you need to take to get to safety. We've worked hard to make the app as comprehensive and user-friendly as possible for scenarios just like this. In fact, we recently added a new feature that shows you the likelihood of encountering snakes and other wildlife based on your location. You can access species-specific guidance on how to avoid and treat potential encounters. We hope this adds an extra layer of preparedness and peace of mind on your adventures.Your story reaffirms the importance of always being prepared in the backcountry and the crucial role knowledge and quick thinking play in emergency situations. Thank you for taking the time to share your experience - it's immensely valuable for us to hear how GOES is making a real difference for adventurers like you.If you have any other thoughts on how we can improve the app or additional topics you'd like to see covered, we're always eager to learn from our users.Wishing you many more safe and enjoyable adventures!
