Ratings and Reviews
Simple & Stable
I’m a bit of a lists junkie and probably a power user. I keep about 20 lists. One for each person I assign action items to at work, one for books and films I’m interested in, project ideas etc, and of course a daily prioritized task list. My practice is to use a task named “——-“ and continuously re-order the list so that anything above it must be completed today, below it are all the other 100+ short term objectives, sorted and re-shuffled throughout the day - but nothing ever falls off until I complete it.
I only wish this IOS version allowed me to set the order in which my lists are presented manually - the order in which lists appear (not their contents - that can already be ordered in several ways). When you have 20 lists this app just orders them left to right according to creation date, so if I add a new list I have to swipe right through 19 other lists to get to it! I’d like to be able to determine my own order.
Since google did away with full screen tasks, I use a Chrome extension to manage my tasks in the browser in full screen. That Chrome extension fortunately allows me to change the presentation order of my lists manually. Just too bad this IOS app doesn’t.
Love the update desktop
Tasks is good, but not great. I love the google calendar integration, but I don’t like that I can only do two layers of tasks. I have so many more layers… also, I’d like it to display the nest address in the google calendar pop up when I click on a task, but it only shows which task list it’s on. I have to go to the task list to see the nest order. I have certain subtasks that are identical, but under multiple different tasks. I’d like to be able to see which one it is without having to write the task in each sub task.
5 stars is for this new desktop update. Unless it just wasn’t working, as of today I see a day update of my task list. I absolutely love that consolidation. This was well executed. The tasks platform deserves some love from google to make it the robust tool I know they are capable of, but every update seems to bring noticeable improvements and this one was particularly noted!
Pleassseeee add more subtasks and display the nesting order!
Tasks PC (Gmail) User Interface
I think Tasks, when used on both the PC and the iPhone, is a very useful tool. The ability to maintain a simple “to do” list across these devices is simple functionality, but I haven’t seen anything else like this from Apple or Microsoft that works as documented. My only dissatisfaction is within the PC GUI (in chrome and Gmail). It seems like this could be much more user-friendly, especially in regard to enlarging the frame in which the tasks are displayed.
I was very pleased that alerts and notifications work properly on the two synchronized platforms. This is another thing that the other software companies can’t get correct for some reason.
One other trivial comment: I don’t understand why the functionality of Reminders and Tasks both exist. The function of having reminders and tasks appear separately on the Google calendar seems redundant to me, but maybe I’m missing something.
