GoPro Quik

Update: It’s my fault, imagine that. Thank you for the developer reply. I have a VPN on my iPhone and iPad, I had no idea that would cause any issues with connected properly to the GoPro. The second I turned that off, everything works as it should. It’s easy to navigate, view, download, and share videos and pictures. Thank you for replying and making this and enjoyable experience again. Through all of my google and GoPro site searching, I never found anything mentioning to have a VPN turned off. I’m only leaving my initial complaint/review below in case someone else has the same issue and will see this resolution. I purchased a Hero 10 black, my first go pro. I was so excited to finally record and edit footage on my phone, even just to access the footage on my phone. I paid for the subscription out of anticipation. And it hasn’t worked one single time. I have an iPhone 15 pro, everything is up to date. My hero quickly and easily connects to the app. But that’s the last useful thing it does. It shows me all the videos stored on the hero, but no thumbnails. Annoying, but not a big deal. Except not only can I not see what they are, I can’t even view a single image, video, or Timelapse. They NEVER load. They always FAIL to download to my phone. Not a single video has “auto uploaded”. It’s completely worthless. I also have an iPad mini 6. It’s the exact same experience on this as well. I’ve deleted the apps and reinstalled them, to no avail. I would love to give a 5 star review, but so far it’s been an awful and disappointing experience.
Developer ResponseHi, sorry about this bad experience.Things to check: do you have a VPN app, if so, please disable it.Does the SD card have the V30 icon on it? (GoPro requires the V30 speed class). How big is the SD card? (i.e.: 32GB). Can you record and view media on another V30 SD card? (The SD card may be bad). Is the camera firmware up to date? You can join us on the GoPro Forum for help, please indicate that you were referred from the App Store.https://community.gopro.com/
I’m 64 years old and done my share of calling for help with products I’ve purchased. They have never turned out the way you would hope. I’ve actually gotten so upset before that I’ve just hung up and put it in my top drawer where everything goes I can’t operate. And recently I purchased a go pro Black 11. I found the instructions inside the box to be very clear and I was able to walk right through setting it up. But when it came to getting it to upload to the cloud, I tried for days with no luck at all. I was dreading even thé though that I had to call customer service but I had no choice so I have in. My call was picked up right away and that surprised me. The young lady that was helping me have me a short speech and in that speech she said that she will stay with me until my issue has been solved and she was telling the truth. I’m not sure how long we spent working on getting my GoPro to upload but I know that put her through such a hard time. I’m not savvy with electronics at all and the very first thing she had to deal with was my old memory as I had already forgotten my GoPro password. She was so patient with me as I worked to get my password. She was so kind, patient and understanding that after I got off the call my wife who has been coming in and out of the room to me,” I can’t believe that she stayed with you so long.” We worked through so many issues and she always knew what I was seeing on each screen and understood me at every turn. I’ve never been treated so good and never felt like I had family on the other end I’m my life. Your to your word GoPro and I’m proud of your commitment to satisfaction. I’ll never purchase a different brand. Sincerely, John R Jaques of Montana, USA
I do most of my editing on separate apps just because this app doesn’t offer what other apps can offer. I haven’t found a way to take clips from separate videos and mix them around. If you’re making an edit, it has to be in chronological order of when it was recorded which sometimes takes away from the idea of an edit where I’d like to put some stuff I recorded after the first recording to throw in there in between different segments of the first clip. It all has to be in order as far as I’m aware, so I’d hope they consider fixing that in the future. I also can not download any video longer than 5 minutes. Obviously I can work around this by removing my SD and using a computer, but when on the go this is extremely annoying. I read online and someone posted this problem months ago and there’s still no fix which is extremely concerning as an owner that no fix has been found for a couple month old problem that may have even been around even longer than that. Also when tilting my phone sideways when re-watching a video, my app freezes every single time and needs to be restarted. Apart from these problems I guess the app does its job. Worth $50 a year? Maybe not considering these simple bugs will probably be on this app a year from now. Will I continue to use it? Yes. It still captures amazing footage and makes it easy to obtain MOST of my content right on my phone with a quick download. I hope the download bug gets fixed real soon though.

I’ve been using Go Products since they started and love the cameras they’ve created so I don’t want to be too harsh with this rating. However I’m pretty disappointed in the app paired up with GoPro Silver especially with the prices these cameras are going for these days. It crashes A LOT. It’s been like this since day 1 when I bought it back in 2017 so it’s not a new issue. I find myself rebooting the GoPro Quick app and the camera multiple times during 1 editing session. Sometimes the file corrupts in the app or has glitches. I like their templates sometimes, but as an editor it would be cool to see further development on making it more intuitive. Sometimes I don’t want to use the template. I just want to drop in my footage and clip away. But the app forces you to use their gimmicky features which is a waste of time when removing all the filters to begin editing. Yes you can turn it off, but it’s extra steps you have to deal with. Furthermore, when clipping, it automatically edits what you think you want as a jump cut. When you make an edit and go back to your timeline the app automatically starts the video from the beginning instead of resuming where you made your edit. These are just a few minor examples of the app being counter-intuitive. So I mostly use Premiere Rush for mobile editing now - it’s quick and easy and handles go pro footage just fine..unless I’m doing bigger edits on the desktop. Overall I like the product, if it could stop crashing and disconnecting with my go pro it would be much more enjoyable.

I’ve had my robust GoPro Hero 3 Black for years since it’s release. I use it for motorcycle reviews and I don’t remember the last time that I was able to successfully connect the app to it. There were different names of the app over time and now for years it wouldn’t work on an iPhone. DJI app on the other hand always works flawlessly. No idea who is responsible for it but updated or not, it just cannot work. On top of that I remember that several times being ready to record, trying to update the app via phone’s metered internet, in the end the app would log me out. Trying to remember my login, then the password, then resetting it all since I can never remember would take so much time, effort and frustrating that today I’m giving up. No more of that crap if GoPro cannot make their products work together anymore. Wonder why people don’t want to buy new GoPros. That’s one reason and alleged overheating and switching off being the second reason. Not to mention GoPro 9 that I really wanted to get until I saw other people’s videos with quality (sharpness in this case) worse than previous GoPros from years before. Really a shame, especially that DJI seems to have screwed things up with their weird design of the new Action. The market of action cameras is somehow doomed nowadays.Update: another update, still not being able to control GoPro nor view media. Fantastic! Especially that the GoPro that I use doesn’t have a screen. The company is a clear master of making their products useless.

I received a go pro from my fiancé over a year ago when the hero 7 had first hit the shelves, seeing the commercials and other reviews knowing how much I love to make epic videos made it impossible for him not to purchase one, well here I am months later and I now can say I have finally experienced the quality and ease of using this device i was so nervous that the battery may be over discharged from sitting for months but Between the 2 I have both seemed to be fine, actually the whole device was perfect I wish I had opened it back when I first received it now that I’m seeing the footage it produces and how awesome and easy the app is that goes along with it, unboxing the camera following each step of the directions closely I took the camera out of the housing it came in and instantly fell in love, you can physically feel the attention that went into waterproofing and see the details that went into each accessory that go pro offers at that moment i knew once again my soon to be husband had out done himself by buying me the most quality and down right perfect little device, it only took a short moment to set up and charge then we were ready to field test hiking down foot trails through swarms of bugs dripping sweat and in the blistering heat my go pro was more ready than I to take on the waterfall ahead misting all of us and my go pro I had no reason to worry that I would miss any of the joy and excitement on my familys faces thank you go pro for providing me and the rest of the world with one of the coolest little cameras I have experienced and I sincerely thank you for giving us the opportunity to capture and share our lives as they unfold whether it be by land sea or air
I’ll update my review if they ever fix the issues with the latest version. Was enjoying the app for basic media management and quick edits until about a month ago (August 2023) when it lost all basic functionality and is now rendering my GoPro subscription useless. Unable to navigate the app or access the studio without it locking up. Running latest version of Quik + latest version of iOS. I’ve tried everything to no avail besides complete uninstall/reinstall as I do not want to lose all my edits. Fix this please. I’m a big GoPro fan and I actually really liked the app when it worked, but I’m not going to continue subscribing to a service if the app struggles to make it past the logo screen.**UPDATE** deleted and reinstalled the app and everything is back to running smoothly. Lost my Quik edits and in-app media, but luckily everything else was backed up. The app makes operating the GoPro remotely a breeze and is good for file management and editing, just be sure to download your edits and offload your favorite media/back up your vids to the cloud to avoid losing files due to unforeseen app complications.

I have been a GoPro supporter for many many years I have owned a lot of different cameras. I like using GoPro cameras for motocross, snowboarding, a cross nation driving. Lately it seems that the product that GoPro has to offer has definitely taken a downward spiral. I currently have the GoPro eight this thing has fallen apart more than I can count on both hands to re-order new parts for it like the door for the battery and the SD card. Also I don’t know what’s going on with the app and why there’s no more options change settings for the camera. But to be honest that was one of the best ideas as in camera selection options because I can change those options with snowboard gloves on motocross gloves on or even do it on the fly will I’m traveling all over America. To be quite frank I am not the type of person to complain but it looks like I’m gonna have to take another alternative route as far as action cameras go and it’s not just me that has the same mindset when it comes to GoPro I’m almost wondering if you guys are falling off the bandwagon and what will be the next new action camera vehicle for the public, law-enforcement etc. oh and one other thing it’s very annoying when you go to open up the app in your music stops playing kind of seems like if you’re scared of copyright or something which at that point it would be out of your hands anyways it would be in the person that is posting the video if they don’t have rights to the music this is America we all have rights.

Honestly this tool set is cool for what it is, but there’s so many limitations. The unlimited cloud space I think is a lie, due to the extreme throttling that I have experienced, I have fiber at my house with upload speeds close to 10 gigs, and leaving my phone plugged in overnight not one video will upload to the cloud. I guess it’s unlimited, but good luck getting it to their servers. For some reason this app takes up so much space on your phone, I have three videos using the tool and it was logging close to 15 gigs, it was frustrating at first because I didn’t understand how I had so little space to take more videos. Finally my last complaint is that quick has a limitation of how long their video format can be, I think it’s to under two minutes and 30 seconds, I do understand that they want quick TickTock, Instagram like videos, but to pay money for an app that controls how long I want to make my videos shouldn’t be up to the manufacture of the tool, in my opinion. The tool is stupid easy to use, and I think the transitions do make a quality product, but all the reasons that I listed above has forced me to cancel my subscription. I am also frustrated that there is not an online portal to view your uploads, you can only view through your phone app, which makes me believe that the unlimited call cloud offering is more of a bait and switch than anything.

Using my Hero7 Black with my IPhone 8 has been troublesome. I have just recently started using the camera (3 months now) and I’ve been taking photos and videos and uploading them to my social media without any issues. I just took a video recently and it will not appear on my camera roll no matter what I do. Just spent One Hour and 30 Minutes on the phone with customer support troubleshooting countless different methods in order to be able to upload thise specific videos to my phone and it is not working. I took the video in 1080P 30FPS so there shouldn’t be a compatibility issue. I’ve tried saving the videos onto my computer, reformatting the SD card, and then re-uploading the videos back to the SD card to upload to the app to no avail. Even if it will begin to upload new media my old media is useless and I fear this is going to become a common occurrence with this camera and app. I know this app has had its problems but I can’t determine if it’s the app or my camera so I’m at a loss. It’s hard to be happy with a device when after 3 months you can't upload your media onto the only compatible app that works with the device. The customer support for GoPro is really great at least and they tried their best but you would think that the app developers would put some more effort into making the media transfer as seamless as possible. For a $300-$400 camera that should not be too much to ask.
