more The tutorials on this really great idea for this daw are horrendous! Sound test room all of them concentrate on the drum view and using pads ! How does the Daw view work ? I see no relation between instruments and that time line at all and like many lame daws on iOS “widgets sprinkles” for navigation and editing. The piano roll is very good but it’s so disconnected from the timeline and instruments that aren’t even visible in the left column ! Pure garbage that basically do nothing in the TIMELINE were most editing should be done . But no this is another fidgety cripple box like Logic . If the creators are serious they with make very detailed step by step tutorials on how to use the daw like a daw himself ! I’ve been told one guy does everything in this company which explains why there are no tutorials made by the company itself which is sorely needed here . The idea this is also a host for third parties apps which all the others drop the ball on and makes this one the one I want to really learn drives me insane. You tube dudes do the worst tutorials ever! They always start with minimum info on how to get a SONG going first but instead waste chapter after chapter with the stuff that should always come AFTER awe learn how to make a tune FIRST! Something that ms to escape these idiot instructors on utube.😖
Developer Response Groove Rider 2 is not a regular Daw, that you may expect or get used to, it's a lot more. It's a brand new groove box system, which is designed especially for musicians and their live set performances. There is a very detailed User's Manual available for download from the www.jimaudio.pro web page, which will answer most of your questions, if not all. I'm sure, that once you read this manual, you will shortly discover all the benefits and find a powerful source of creativity that Groove Rider 2 brings to the world of iOS music and sound production!

So I’m giving it 5 because of all the updates and the pure ambition of this monster. But I really hope Jim is going to provide more performance options for individual clip activation. Please give us quantization from 0-1/64th. Another feature that would really set this apart in this regard would be playhead integrity— also known as “jump mode” in other sequencers. Patterning sequencers will stay on step maintaining progress even when switching to new “clips”. So we can switch from clip to clip, and when we switch the change can be quantized to whatever, but the newly selected clip will pick up on where the previous sequence left off, in terms of steps. We have not had anything like that since Modstep.

Updated: Changed review to five stars - you can now add auv3 effects per track. This is just a beautifully designed app - a must for anyone even curious about making music on their iPad****Another brilliant app from this developer, one that pushes the original groovebox concept into full DAW territory. I absolutely love the ability to record a few clips, launch them in different combinations, and save that performance onto a song timeline for further tweaking. A very satisfying workflow and a pleasure to interact with/look at too.

It’s like an audio angel came down from heaven, and said “Your wish is my command!”This is exactly what I was looking for. I was actually considering buying hardware boxes, but then GR2 came on the scene. It’s really beyond my wildest dreams. Blowing every other music making app away. I knew it was going to be good because all his apps have that magic mojo sparkle. There’s not enough space or time to go into everything GR2 can do…and now the latest update! Everything is documented. Just go and read all this little monster can do.I will admit it took me about a month or two to get used to it. But I’m a hobbyist with a full time job and family. So please give yourself some time to learn it and you won’t be disappointed .

In this quick-fix update 1.3.1:
- fixed: AUv3 effects sidechain assignment setting was not saving;
- fixed crash when changing MFX Type from within the FX Bus page;
- fixed: onscreen keyboard, when in Scale Lock mode, was still showing previous pattern's scale after new pattern was opened;
- onscreen keyboard's "More / Less Keys" setting is now saved between sessions;
- other minor bug fixes.
In previous major update 1.3.0:
- AUv3 effects can now be loaded into insert effect (IFX) slots!
- Multi Core Audio added (OFF by default). When enabled, audio engine renders Parts on parallel threads, decreasing CPU load. Switch it ON from the Settings -> Audio -> Multi Core Audio. Efficient on devices with M2 and newer chips. On M1 and prior devices can behave unstable with glitches in the audio playback. Guard Buffer Size setting increases stability, however, introduces more latency;
- Part Arpeggiator can now take in account input notes velocity (previously only the constant default velocity value was used). This parameter is called "Velocity" and now located in the Arpeggiator window of each Part, and is OFF by default;
- Audio Sidechain can now be routed into AUv3 effects, which support it and have more than 1 input audio bus;
- added Copy/Paste of bus effects on the FX Bus page in the long-hold popup menu;
- added "Consolidate Loop" function in the Notes Editor menu (for Session clips only). Allows to trim and shift your loop region to the beginning of bar 1, respecting the initial Cue point;
- fixed: Pitch Bend and Modulation Wheel automations were not playing when exporting Song to an audio file;
- fixed internal Synth issue with hanging notes, when Poly parameter was set to 1 and Midi Pitch to any nonzero value.

1.3.0 Mar 23
In this update (1.2.5):
- Note chopping function added in the Note Editor. Select note(s) and move the "Chop" dragger. Selected note(s) will be split into a number of equal pieces. Hold SHIFT while moving for the numbers of power of two. Very useful for polyrhythmic tricks.
- Note warping function added in the Note Editor. Works on a selected row of notes (e.g. on a drum fill), changes notes timing by creating smooth acceleration or deceleration. Select a row of notes, then hold down SHIFT ("Chop" dragger will turn into a "Warp") and then move the "Warp" dragger up for acceleration or down for deceleration.
- Chop to Grid: new function added in the Note Editor's operations menu. It chops selected note(s) into smaller parts using current Grid Snap setting.
- Halve and Double note timing functions in the Note Editor are now automatically modifying clip's loop range, if no notes were selected before the operation.
- pattern load optimisations;
- m4a sample format support added (for internal Sampler);
- fixed issue with renaming folders that contain dot symbol in their name;
- CPU load/energy optimization: GR-2 will now drop its graphics to 30 FPS every time user opens the AUv3 window. And then restores it back after the window is closed;
- other minor bug fixes and improvements.
In previous update (1.2.4):
- added Acid Riff Generator (ported from the JimAudio Pure Acid app), accessible from Clip Editor, Melodic Parts only. You can select Scale, Key, Octaves range and one from 6 available generator modes;
- added Legato setting for the internal synth/sampler/wt/sf2, located on the lower end of the POLYPHONY knob in synth's settings. When set to Legato, a synth will get 1 voice polyphony and slide from one pitch to another, when notes overlap, using GLIDE knob's value. This is especially useful when playing 303-style note slides;
- added new Pitch Delay IFX, in 4 combinations (mono/stereo, bpm/free). It is combines Delay effect with Pitch Shifter, where every next repeat is being shifted up or down;
- added One Tap Delay IFX, which adds one single repeat to the original sound with adjustable Pan, Time delay and Mix;
- Stereo Width IFX: added new Balance knob, which adjusts panning of the stereo-Side channel;
- added mono versions of Chorus and Flanger effects;
- STEPS pad mode improvement: you can now write automation per step by holding a step pad (or even several) and simultaneously moving a parameter knob on the Sound page. This method can also be used with AUv3 instruments.
- added one more "Parallel Special 3" setting to the MFX routing on the FX Buses page;
- crash fixed when creating a new folder in the empty user presets tab in the Browser;
- fixed: some LFO timings (3/8, 3/16) were performing incorrectly;
- added a solution which can prevent issue with partial UI freezing after using certain AUv3's. However, if the issue still persists, you can now tap the Stop button to clear touches cache and unfreeze the UI;
- added a new keyboard shortcut CMD+M to toggle Metronome Click On/Off.

- Pencil, Brush, Erase, Mute tools: you can now use 2 finger gestures to move/zoom note view;
Other features:
- added audio interface input selection. Now you can select the input channel for recording from the Settings -> Audio -> Audio Input;
- Sample Editor's waveform display was sometimes showing random spikes during recording an audio sample - fixed;
- several memory leak issues has been fixed;
- other minor bug fixes.
1.2.3 07/07/2025
Presets Sharing:
- added user presets Exporting and Sharing! You can share individual presets and even entire preset folders as a single bank file! Sharing is done from the Browser window: select one or several presets and tap the share icon in the bottom panel;
- the new .g2 / .g2b preset file format can store a single preset (.g2 file) or multiple presets (.g2b file), containing all the necessary samples and sf2 banks inside a single preset file!

Visual:
- added a matte (blur) background effect on the Selector window, Settings window and popup menus. Can be switched off from the Settings -> General -> System -> Transparency FX;
- added dark mode and tinted mode app icon.
Misc:
- added a small diagnostics tool in the Settings -> General -> Diagnostics, to check GR-2 internal sample cache. Allows to find out if some samples are missing due to system crashes or errors, as well as to cleanup unused cache that is holding disk space without a reason;
- added a detection of the infinite clipping output from the buggy AUv3's, which sometimes can occur and cause the whole app to stop producing any sound. Now, if the glitch will be detected, the audio unit that caused it will be automatically deactivated, not interrupting the playback;
- fixed bug with SF2 player synth, when setting its Poly parameter to 2, 3 or 4 allowed to play one voice only;
