Groundwire: the SIP softphone for your PBX or VoIP provider
Groundwire is a SIP softphone app from Acrobits, a leader in VoIP and communication software since 2009. It delivers clear voice and video calls for personal and professional use, with an interface built for daily calling and none of the clutter.
IMPORTANT, PLEASE READ
Groundwire is a SIP client, not a VoIP service. You need service from a VoIP provider or PBX that supports standard SIP clients.
Business calling features
Groundwire carries the call handling you expect from a desk phone:
- Group calls, for conferencing several people into one conversation.
- Attended transfers, so you can announce a caller before handing the call over.
- Unattended transfers, when the caller just needs the right extension.
- Voicemail with notifications, so a missed call still reaches you.
- Instant messaging, for the things that do not need a call.
- Per-account settings, so one device carries several SIP identities cleanly.
Works with your PBX or VoIP provider
Groundwire is a universal client and true VoIP for PBX users. Teams run it as an Asterisk softphone, a FreePBX extension, or a 3CX endpoint, and it connects just as readily to hosted PBX systems and business phone providers. It also comes preconfigured for major providers, so setup takes minutes. Because it is a standard client, there is no lock-in: bring the account you already have, and Groundwire becomes the mobile extension of your PBX, with encrypted SIP calling on every network.
On a team it is the business softphone dialer sitting on top of the PBX you already pay for. On your own it keeps a work line separate, or carries a desk extension in your pocket.
Key features of the softphone
- Audio on widely used codecs, Opus, G.729 and G.711 among them.
- Video calls at 720p HD, carried by H.264 and VP8.
- Private conversations with military-grade encryption, including TLS, SRTP, and ZRTP.
- Low battery use thanks to efficient push notifications.
- The VoIP dialer hands calls over between WiFi and mobile data without dropping them.
- Custom call settings, UI, and ringtones per account.
- 5G ready and compatible with most mobile operating systems.
A softphone app without the fees
Groundwire is a softphone for calling over WiFi and mobile data, with the business dialer features that usually cost a monthly fee. One payment, no subscription, nothing hidden: buy it once and it stays yours. Encryption sits inside that price rather than on top of it.
Run a call center, manage a fleet of extensions, or keep a dependable sip phone for a home office. The same app covers all of it, without extra tiers.
Download Groundwire and put a dependable SIP dialer on your phone, with Acrobits engineering and responsive support behind it.
Great product, but since the latest updated the transfer button and attended transfer buttons are no longer available. Is this feature still available?

There should already be an update out where this is resolved. We apologize for the inconvenience.
Superb SIP softphone; provisioning could use improvement

In a world where software design and development prowess normally does not accompany SIP softphones, this app stands out as a nicely polished utility with great functionality and customizability. Dialing / call interfaces look great; the app pulls well from your contact list; allows you to switch between SIP connections efficiently, etc. All of that said, I had some trouble figuring out provisioning, because certain parts of an XML account node would not do anything; I figured out that when I delete an account entirely and re-provisioned, it would work, but when I had already manually configured some things, provisioning would silently fail to overwrite some things (like title or SIP credentials), but not others (like voicemail number), etc. That was a bit of a struggle, because I shouldn’t have to worry about the state of an account when I try to provision.

Thanks for the feedback! Glad you’re enjoying the app. We’ll review the provisioning process to improve that experience. Appreciate your input!
Excellent app with a killer feature

This is a great app for family or enterprise use. Great voice quality, flexible options, nice integration with iPhone (and iPad), lovely user interface. And: After some plowing through Acrobits’ wiki and scratching my head a little, I found it supports external provisioning. That’s wonderful: you can set up simple .xml provisioning profiles on a web server (or even in Dropbox’s public web folder) and give your users a click-link that, when clicked on their iDevice, will automatically set this application up. I’ve encouraged Acrobits to improve the description of how to do this, but if I figured it out you probably can too.Really great app, and well worth the small amount of money it costs… especially considering the massive savings VoIP brings!UPDATE: after several years I remain delighted with this app. Call quality, ease of use, iPhone-worthy design... first class stuff.

Thank you very much for your kind words!
Definitely one of the better SIP apps for iOS

Or actually the best one I’ve tried so far. I’m using this with a VOIP/SIP service that doesn’t have great audio quality, but this app seems to be able to make the sound quality passable for a change. Lots of customizability and options for nerdy customization. One minor complaint: please redesign the app icon to the new Liquid Glass design. It also seems to be larger than other icons in the dock for some reason.

Glad to hear things are working well for you! Thanks as well for sharing your thoughts on the icon; your feedback is valuable and will be shared with our team for their consideration.
