On December 3, 1903, the Barmore Lake Association was formed for the purpose of maintaining a public park and facilities for skating, boating, trotting, and other athletic sports, as well as clubs for the preservation of fish and game. With little income over the years, debts began to mount. The Barmore Lake Association owed a mortgage of 2,900 dollars by 1915. It became apparent that a change in ownership was needed for the property.

In June 1917 (one month after the United States declared war in World War I), 107 subscribers signed the charter for a new “Grove City Country Club” and the transition of ownership was complete. In 1918, the dues for Club Membership were five dollars per year. During World War II, the area now known as the picnic grounds was an orchard, and members planted “Victory Gardens” along the driving range.

There were numerous property acquisitions throughout the years that culminated in the expansion of the golf course in the 1990s. In 1996, the “new nine” was added. Designed by John Ponko, this project completed the Club’s transition to an 18-hole golf course.

Today, Grove City Country Club maintains its status as the region’s premier private country club destination, with an award winning golf course and peaceful setting, offering its members and guests a truly one of a kind experience.
