Description

Easy-to-use tool for synchronization and folder backup built on top of rsync – reliable and well tested UNIX tool.

Main use case of grsyncx:

• quick synchronization of files between your Mac and other external storage (f.e. attached disks)

Remote locations can be processed as well if properly mounted within the file system hierarchy.

Features available in grsyncx:

• variety of useful rsync parameters for easy setup
• sane set of default parameters picked for Mac environment – syncing Finder tags, latest version of files – de facto true mirroring of the selected file hierarchy
• input field for user-defined rsync parameters
• optional logging output of the running task
• Simulated execution mode if you're unsure about your setup

grsyncx is available to developers at https://github.com/username0x0a/grsyncx.

Feel free to donate its development by buying it on Mac App Store!

Works on Apple Silicon and FCP libraries

Verified it works on Apple Silicon M1 Ultra, MacOS 12.5. It also works for copying Final Cut Pro libraries which are nested subfolders wrapped as a .fcpbundle file.

It is apparently a universal binary that runs natively on both Intel and Apple Silicon. It is not merely an Intel app being emulated by Rosetta on Apple Silicon.

The UI is rudimentary but adequate. The app works and seems reliable. It has the needed features to leverage rsync. It is useful in cases where more file copy functionality is needed than Finder but the user is not comfortable with command-line rsync. Examples might include copying very large or critical folder trees where verification and logging of the copy operation is needed.

This is not TimeMachine

Grsyncx is a graphical wrapper for rsync so do not expect it to function like TimeMachine. Unlike TimeMachine, rsync can actually backup important data without the fear of random files not being recognized as changed files or worse, backup up as corrupt or incomplete files on the destination side. -- Rsync has been around forever in unix and is great once you actually know the commands (-c = checksum / -u = update / etc / etc) but with the GUI of grsyncx, command like these are simple checkmark boxes. If an obscure rsync command is not a grsyncx checkmark box, there is a section in "Advanced" to add it to the backup job. - End result, you can find grsync on GitHub but as the developer clearly states, by buying it on the App Store, it is a good donation to him plus the App Store will alert/install any grsyncx updates automatically. If you need a graphical program like this, I encourage you to buy grsync.

recursive option doesn't work

Since the recursive option isn't working (from MAC to NAS WD My Cloud) I have to go into each source directory and run the copy instead of being able to select one directory and have all files in subdirectories copied.
