Get ready to head back to the East Coast in Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories.

Former trusted wise guy for the Leone family, Toni Cipriani returns home to Liberty City after spending time in hiding for killing a made man. Now, the streets of Liberty City are in turmoil, as warring families vie for control and the town begins to self-destruct under waves of political corruption, organized crime, drug trafficking and union strikes. Deranged hit men, morally depraved tycoons, cynical politicians and even his own mother stand in the way as Toni tries to bring the city under Leone family control.

Editors’ Notes

Liberty City Stories shows off one of gaming’s most memorable worlds while taking you on an action-packed tour of a criminal underworld. Stealing cars, evading cops, and racing through streets littered with obstacles is an absolute blast. Gaining notoriety while amassing new cars and weapons is as addictive as ever, and the franchise’s familiar dark humor had us laughing out loud. Rockstar's enormous game offers a wonderful sandbox filled with chaos and silliness, and you won’t want to leave it.

Great For What it’s Worth

For a game that is under $10 and ported to a phone platform, this game over performs. This is an underrated entry into a much beloved franchise, and delivers a nostalgic experience within Liberty City. With over 50 vehicles, many special outfits, and an expansive storyline, it is baffling that people complaining are taking for granted the fact that this is a fully fledged GTA title that functions on a mobile phone. Another reviewer mentioned they purchased this game after GTA 3 DE was removed from Netflix, and I cannot emphasize enough that Liberty City Stories is not a remastered or definitive edition, but rather a port of the original 2005 PSP title. Although the game can be dated and clunky often times, the amount of content and fun that you can have within this pocket sized GTA game is beyond impressive. The performance of the game is outstanding on more modern iPhones such as the 14, and features controller support which I would highly recommend for smoother gameplay. The touch screen control scheme still offers more accessibility for those who don’t own gamepads or are traveling. All in all, I think most of the bad reviews here are from people who don’t understand or appreciate the original 3D era GTA titles, and or folks who played the game for maybe 10 minutes and didn’t give it enough of a chance.

Slight heating issues

It plays decently, and it's just as fun as I remember it on the PS2, though I tend to recall the colors being a whole lot more dazzling on there. While the sun glare is still very much present in this game, I think graphically speaking, the game was way more impressive on the consoles back then [obviously, seeing as this is a mobile port after all].

Unlike III, Vice City, and San Andreas however, this one has yet to be fully optimizied for the M1 computers, so you may or may not face issues regarding performance or crahses. I'm experiencing significant heating, as it takes roughly 50% of the GPU while playing, which is extremely unnecessary. It shouldn't require that much horse power. An optimization patch/update should hopefully fix this issue.

Lastly, for anyone choosing to play this on their computers, this has no mouse & keyboard support, so you need a controller in order to play the game properly, preferbaly a licensed one that can support the game all the way through the end.
