Description

Gubbins is a friendly puzzle game where players place tiles to construct words, with the help and hindrance of wildcard modifiers called Gubbins.

Minimalist typography alongside kooky cartoons serve as a canvas for moreish wordplay. Dig through the draw pile and make words on the board with hilarious friends wreaking havoc.

What’s New

Version 1.1.1

Hello Gubheads! Today we have an important patch that includes critical fixes and small QoL features. Thank you kindly for your bug reports and postcards!

Fixed an issue with the Black Hole which would cause other Gubbins to break (UFO, Chili, Meteor)
Fixed an issue with the Meteor Gubbin, and its ability to track jumbled tiles
Meteors will now try to avoid landing near each other, as to not break the game (and our minds)
Fixed issue with Sock Gubbin trying to destroy itself
Sped up Mushroom Gubbin spotlight animation
Pencils will now prioritise creating 'common' words
Fixed missing 'Saved to Photos' popup in postcard menu
Added Streak sticker for postcard making
Added a new additional option for turning off streak tracker on main menu (nested in Accessibility & More in the Settings)
Bundles and purchased items should more accurately update in the Kiosk based on what you have purchased.
Fixed issues with using undo after some Gubbins (Black Hole, Meteor)
Added the pause button during Gubbin selection to allow exiting the game.

Known Issues
We are aware of a rare bug that causes Gubbin selection to break. We are investigating this issue.
Playing a UFO, Chili or Meteor on the same turn as a Black Hole expires can cause some tiles to appear in the wrong place temporarily. This is only a visual issue, and only while the tiles update to the Black Hole's rotation.

Editors’ Notes

A funky ’70s aesthetic, wild cards that thwart easy wins—we’ve rarely seen a word game with so much style.

Great game, but one issue with the one-a-day system

I adore this game! It’s unique as far as word games go and the art style is so charming. I don’t mind that you been only play once a day for free because it keeps me from getting sucked in too much.

The one issue I’ve noticed is that while I’m in Eastern time, the timer that restricts you to one game a day will still allow me to play until 3 am (midnight Pacific time). However, if I play a game between midnight and 3 am, I will not be able to play again until 3 am the following day. For example, at 12:30 am on Feb 9, I was still able to play the daily from Feb 8. But at 12:30 am on Feb 10, I am NOT able to play at all. The daily from Feb 9 is marked as complete even though I did not get to play that one, only the daily from Feb 8. I would love for this to be fixed, especially now that you’ve introduced streaks. I don’t mind losing the ability to play the previous day’s game until 3 am if it means not getting cheated out of the next day’s game altogether 🙏🏾

Fantastic

So refreshing to play a game that isn’t full of ads… we forget what that’s like. The lack of ads actually made me want to pay for the game just for that alone. Such a rarity now, shut up and take my money - Other developers please take note. The game is thoughtfully designed, artwork is great and the concept is simple. Beautiful game overall and really enjoyable to play so far. Yes, it’s another word game based on other word game mechanics but it’s really well done and feels unique with the gubbins and it’s actually quite strategic mixed with the hope of the draw giving you what you want before you run out of space on the grid. The daily puzzles are great, free and the lack of nudge /micro payments in the game makes it terrific - yes there is a shop but it doesn’t block/restrict/cap gameplay with stupid stuff like in game currencies and scam economies. Nope, instead it’s just about fun gameplay that’s open to all. Fantastic.
