Perfect ten

I have been trying to learn the guitar for 15 years now. I am on my first month of playing and I already know four songs I have learned more in one month than I learned the entire 15 years of playing. I highly recommend this program if you were to pay someone to give you lessons, they would charge you $30 for an hour, then that’s only for one hour. This you get unlimited everything for 20 bucks they don’t move too fast and you can slow down the speed of the lecture. I figured out how to print off the tabs so I can practice it even when I’m not online I have so much practicing to do before. I can move forward with the next lesson because that’s how much we have covered in about three weeks I can’t keep up with these guys and I don’t have to go. Let me go at my own pace. I am confident that I will be playing the guitar in no time thank you guitar tricks.

Solid, not great

The app has an issue on the phone (iPhone 15 Pro Max) where if you touch the screen in fullscreen horizontal mode (widescreen), the app will return to vertical mode. I don't think this is the intended design, so maybe it’s a bug. Perhaps it is meant to be a swipe so you can quickly exit full screen, but it’s too sensitive if so. This is frustrating when trying to rewind because you must return to widescreen mode.

Another issue is when doing a chord switch when trying to play along the chord switch is sometimes not notated until the new line of notation comes up, so it’s easy to mess up because you don't see it coming. You either need to memorize the chords/notes or bring the notation up, which is too small to read on a phone with the video also playing. You could also print off the notation, but this is a hassle for shorter videos.

I have used primarily blues and classical lessons. The blues lessons are very well done, and the teacher makes me believe he knows what he is doing. The classical teacher is fine, but his play is either sloppy, the guitar is out of tune, or the recording quality isn't good. I can't figure out which it is. However, he teaches the notes and techniques well overall.

Learning song section can be very frustrating to use

Some instructors spend too much time talking about theory and other things mixed right in with the middle of the song instruction, irrelevant to actually learning the song, and then fly way to rapidly though the chords, progressions and riffs, making learning difficult and multiple rewinds and replays necessary. (Example; Behind Blue Eyes by Mark Olesky. )

There is no way to mark or loop song sub-sections, so it is hunt and guess tryin to find the section you want to repeat without wasting time listening to the irrelevant taking and or parts you already know again and again . The theory may be interesting , but should come in separate sections, NOT in the middle of trying to learn to play a part of the song. Songs should be broken down into smaller sections for learning , or have ability to mark and loop sub-sections so you can repeat as needed.

On the plus side, transcriptions and techniques are generally good, except for songs with multiple guitars in the original . “Just play guitar 1” is a cop out. There are usually very good ways of combining multiple parts for solo.

Developer Response ,

Hi there. We definitely appreciate the feedback. Just in case you did not know, looping is part of the app. The icon for looping looks like a circle with an arrow. As for songs with multiple guitar parts, we try to teach all of the guitar sections in a song, and then offer an option for playing a song with a single guitar. But if you want to learn all of the parts, it's in there as well. Otherwise, your comments are really helpful and gives us a better understanding of what users are looking for in lessons. Thank you!
