Learning scales and fretboard notes doesn't have to be a chore, turn it into a game with GuitarKing! Practice on your real instrument with Advanced Live Feedback while you take the fun route to complete fretboard freedom - enabling melodic soloing, jamming, picking up songs by ear and more.

Try GuitarKing Premium for free today and enjoy the full experience!

Ever wonder how some people are just able to “magically” pick the right notes to make their playing sound interesting? They know scales. Not just scale patterns - but also how each note in every scale sounds! They know it so well that they can pick out any note instantly, and know how it sounds before they play it!

GuitarKing makes learning scales and fretboard notes fun! A unique game-like experience makes sure you will never give up learning and practicing music theory. GuitarKing guides you from learning your first scale pattern to complete fretboard freedom. At the end, you’ll know any note or scale interval anywhere on the fretboard like it’s second nature!

Begin learning all the notes on your fretboard or choose from the selection of 17 different scales and modes: Major Pentatonic, Minor Pentatonic, Major, Minor, Blues, Major Blues, Phrygian, Dorian, Lydian, Mixolydian, Locrian, Harmonic Minor, Phrygian Dominant, Gypsy Major, Gypsy Minor, Persian Scale or the Japanese Scale.

No scale is mastered without practice. Yet most of us would rather play songs or jam instead of repeating the same 5 scale patterns endlessly. GuitarKing’s unique approach to practicing was developed to make learning scales faster and more interesting. GuitarKing treats scales as music rather than shapes to make you aware of not just how you play but also what you’re playing. A better understanding leads to faster and greater improvements.
GuitarKing uses your phone or tablet’s microphone or any compatible audio interface to listen as your play on your real instrument. All you need is your phone, GuitarKing and your instrument - no additional equipment is required.

No support no options

Worked great for one day. Then it no longer would hear notes from my guitar. Checked that volume for guitar on app was up at full volume and nothing. Turned down other two for headphone etc and still nothing. No way to fix it or adjust it, no support help, no contact info. Glad I didn’t pay for the monthly what a waste of time. Too bad started off good but crashed and burned. Stick with major apps.

Needs improvement

I like this app a lot— I downloaded it a while ago and forgot I had it. I just started using it today and have noticed a few things. I’ll start by saying that the app is really helpful in with drilling scales and mastering the fretboard. (If you’re a fender play user like me, that’s something you have to pay *more* for through fender tune, which is ridiculous.) My main issue is that during the games, the screen will fall asleep. That must be fixed, it makes it difficult to actually use the app for its intended purpose.
Another thing is the UI could use updating, the layout is okay but I constantly have to kill the app to get back to the very start. You should also do some tweaking with the lessons, for example: I planned to learn all the notes on the sixth string and then test out of them all, which I could no longer do once I took all the lessons. I found that to be rather counterintuitive.
This is still a good app despite that, and if you’re looking for more technical stuff (esp if you use fender play lol) then this is the way to go. Learning chords is nothing if you don’t know the notes that make them & scales are pretty much the key to playing your own music.
Hope you guys take the time to improve on this because I really like the concept. Thanks
