exactly what you need to start setting and tracking your goals!

This app is awesome you guys! I’m earning points like crazy, and I’ve put a goal for myself – – even though you can actually get gems and articles to go on your little dude – – I chose the reward I want so (you can customize it)and I’m doing it!! I’m doing what I’m supposed to do. It’s fun to go in and check it off and hear it make noises and give you points! I highly recommend if you don’t have a habit of setting goals (your three things a day) that you go in and you start with at least three things you can delete what they have by swiping the left or you can stick with what they have and there’s habits, daily, and Projects basically three different categories you can set up! There are so many different things you can do to customize this to fit your schedule and your needs you can make one for Budget. You can make one for Goals or Projects. The only thing negative is that it’s a little messy and difficult to navigate; or I would’ve given it five stars. If they could clean it up a little bit, make the tabs to the different categories either up on top or larger and give a better understanding of points and how they were awarded it would be perfect ( and he's I went through the tutorials). But it's really awesome as is!!

Really Helpful for School!

It’s ridiculously hard to stay motivated during virtual classes, and I think Habitica has been a big help! I have all my school assignments up on my To-Do list, which is really helpful for keeping track of what to do and for staying motivated in the middle of working on an assignment.

The main reason why I love it so much is that it’s ridiculously effective for me and it’s just what I was looking for. A lot of other habit-tracker/to-do list apps aren’t in an engaging format, and I delete them after slowly losing interest over the course of a few days. I didn’t have this problem with Habitica, because of how it’s part game and part productivity tracker. I’ve been looking for an app like this for ages, and I didn’t find this until my friend recommended it (and thank goodness she did).

I haven’t noticed any bugs, other than the occasional small bug that comes from not syncing with the happening on my computer quickly enough. Occasionally there’s an issue where I check off a To-Do list item or a Daily and it doesn’t change color immediately, but it’s no big deal because the color changes if I go to another tab and then go back to the original. I’m also not entirely sold on the idea of gems basically being only obtainable through money, but I can appreciate that the things they purchase confer mostly cosmetic benefit.

Habitica can be a total Game Changer

I’ve been using Habitica for almost two years now, and I’m here to say that as I was initially a casual user of the app, and have moved to being a player in a world parallel yet decidedly different from our own. With Habitica being a highly customizable game, you truly can gamify your habits and tasks to suit your own level of creativity, utilitarianism, minimalism, and community engagement. The guilds are supportive and members are eager to give encouragement and feedback, and the challenges that the guilds provide are usually well written and sometimes use “RPG lingo” to make it more like a game and less like a chore list.
I started changing the names of my tasks to “unlock achievements “ and my habit lists to “Activate power ups “ , and it’s been significantly helpful to keep my attention and engagement with the app. Furthermore: purchasing the app is going to be the game changer. While you don’t technically “need” to, it opens up another level of interest and engagement with special Pet and potion Quests, and Habitica gives you a bundle of items every month you subscribe, and a special little pet as a thank you. Purchases keep the app free and free of ads for free users.

However, this month I found that the Mystery Gift items did not show up in my Items list. I’m wondering if it’s a bug

This is what I was looking for!

When the new year rolled around, I had so many areas of my life that needed improvement that I felt overwhelmed committing to a bunch of New Year's resolutions that I didn't have discipline to keep. I realized I needed accountability and a rewards system, so I started my own on a wall calendar with tally marks...when lo and behold, my coworker alerted me to the existence of Habitica! This app is perfect for me as a social gamer and a self-improvement fiend. My friends jumped in, and the group motivation to check off our individual habits and to-dos is higher than it could ever be. It's like that African proverb: "If you want to go fast, go alone...if you want to go far, go together."

If I could make Habitica even better, I'd iron out the bugs (the entire rewards page disappears when I add a new reward, the app crashes for me at least once a day, and sometimes it takes awhile for habits to respond). Also be careful when you're switching between desktop and mobile to make sure the changes you made on either one take effect. But I think this app is doing a great job overall, and if they're committed to the principle of self-improvement that they're purposed for, it could be even more amazing!

Did not live up to the hype

This was fun at the beginning, but it gets old quick because you are so limited in what you can do. You have to pay for a monthly subscription to even buy gems with the gold coins you win, and you have to pay to be on a team and complete quests with a party. There is not much merch to purchase with your gold, so once you buy all the weapons and whatnot, you just kind of stall out until they drop more stuff which is rarely…like 4 times a year. Also they limit the number of gems you can buy with gold to 20 a month and so you just kind of have to sit around collecting way too much gold (I’m over 1,000) with literally nothing to spend it on.
You can buy seasonal merch but it does nothing…so I guess it’s a good game for people who like hoarding?
There needs to be more to this app. It’s like they thought of a good premise but just never actually took it where it could go. You just kind of have an avatar that you can dress and you win imaginary gold that just piles up…cool? The pets and mounts don’t do anything and there is no action. Not sure what we are supposed to be paying for with a subscription. Needs story and actual interactive content. Pointless after about a month. Very disappointed.

I had such high hopes but my honest review is that this is just not worth it. Needs more design and content.

Thanks for giving Habitica a try and leaving an honest review. Sorry it isn't what you're looking for at this time. We did want to point out that you can join a party without being a subscriber. All items that can be obtained with gems are cosmetic, and quests can be shared with partymates. There are also a number of ways to earn gems without using money—you can read more about them here: https://habitica.fandom.com/wiki/Gems#Obtaining_Gems_for_Free

Productivity disguised as a game

I’m in my mid 20’s and got into a mental slump when the pandemic hit and I was working a job that drained every ounce of life that I could give. The only way I could recharge was spending time with my friends, so that was all I wanted to do.

Since then I’ve gotten married, moved jobs twice to something that I now love more than anything, gotten 2 cats and a new, bigger apartment. But I still find myself in that mental slump of 0 motivation to do anything but be with people.

This app, this game, gave me real-time rewards for doing the mundane, rather than having to wait and see if or when my wife would thank me for doing the dishes or taking out the trash as needed. I had habits that I wanted to break (such as setting repeat alarms or getting back into bed after turning off my alarm and potentially falling back asleep). I wanted to do daily chores to try and get rid of the cockroaches that started to infest our apartment, as of 2 weeks ago, they’re all but gone. This app works if you find fulfillment in being rewarded for doing things, mundane things. I highly recommend this to anyone who wants to restart and have a valuable tool to do so

Wonderful App!

I love Habitica! I have used this service off and on since it was created, but recently I have started using Habitica every day. I love the separation between Habits, To Dos, and Dailies, as well as the gentle character customization and the inclusion of a place to converse with other players.

I have encountered bugs where my items will not be checked off until I do it a few times, or the app will lag when putting a new item. That is the reason for my Four Stars instead of Five. Also, I would really like if we could tag each task under a category, and be able to track that tag with the tasks we did. I think it would be nice to see how many times I checked “Clean my room” and not just as part of a streak.

Overall, this app is a great way to keep track of your to-dos. Its interface is simple but effective, and works well for people who enjoy a bit of fun even among the mundane. This is not a full “game,” for anyone confused, but adds an entertainment factor, as well as a rewarding one, for those looking to be more productive. I have tried many productivity apps, and this is the one I consistently remember and come back to. Thank you for making this app!

Inclusive phobia protection feature!!!

I use the app with a few friends and it’s great for keeping track of habits and giving me external motivation - which I definitely need to make new habits/ keep up tough ones.

I’m really excited about the phobia protection feature though. It is an add-on that will remove images of spiders, snakes, zombies, etc - things people may have phobias of. One of the friends that uses Habitica with me has a massive phobia of spiders and, while I think she’s ok with digital spiders, I never realized how apps I use easily (and invited her to use with me) might not be accessible to her during Halloween. I didn’t realize how important this kind of feature is for inclusivity until I saw it. I know how stressful the phobia is for her in person and I appreciate that Habitica is providing an option for people to avoid seeing potentially upsetting images when they’re everywhere during Halloween season.

I just had to drop a review because this kind of feature makes apps accessible to everyone- as they should be. It shows me that Habitica has people behind it that care about other people.

Wonderful in theory, ok execution

So this app is wonderful. Really helped me with habbits i had been struggling with, but as i started getting deeper in and especially with quests and stuff, i noticed a bunch of bugs starting to pop up. Issues with tasks not completing, quests not starting easily, just quality of life stuff. I eventually found another app that has helped me and isn’t buggy, so I then tried to leave the party im in. “Leave quest first” ok, doesn’t sound hard. I went to the quest, but there wasn’t anywhere i could find that allowed me to leave. After some googling and restarting the app, the leave quest button popped up. I clicked leave and like 2 things popped up that didn’t make sense. The quest had already started and one of the pop ups was mentioning that, and the other was confirming if i want to leave. I clicked confirm on both and nothing happened. No notification that i had left, nothing on the party menu that i had left or the quest was in progress. So now im stuck in a quest thats been going on for a good few weeks now, that I can’t leave with a party I can’t abandon
If you want this app to track your habbits, go for it. If you’re interested in the quest system, I’d stay away unless you’re really invested

Well...

I loved this app for a while, it gives you rewards for doing every day things and makes you feel like you’ve accomplished something. But then the gems. Gems are the in game currency you have to purchase with real money (different to gold which you can earn). Having to buy game currency is one of my biggest pet peeves. You can’t convert gold to gems, you can’t sell stuff to get gems, and it’s nearly impossible to get them. The only way to get them is to do “challenges” posted by other users which are difficult to do for 1-2 gems (which is not guaranteed. Some challenges only 1 person wins). Another way is to “contribute” which I have yet to figure out what that means but from the tings I have seen it is minimal pay out as well. I wanted to get all of the pets and unlocked all of the ones you can get through day to say activity, but “quests” take forever and rarely give you eggs to hatch so I have not gotten many of those either. The only way to get new potions (after the core 11) is to buy them with gems. Basically, don’t get this app if you actually want to unlock everything or complete quests and missions. I’ve had this app for over a year and I’m considering deleting because I’ve exhausted everything I can do
