Description

Introducing the Halo Learn mobile app. In this initial 1.0 version, we have focused on allowing you to receive and respond to your Halo Alerts directly within the app.

The Halo Learn mobile app is designed as a companion application for all students and faculty using the Halo Learn Management System (LMS). The primary objective of the application is to provide near real-time push notifications for events identified by the user. This mobile app is designed to keep you connected to your Halo classroom with Halo Alerts, ensuring you stay up-to-date with the latest classroom alerts while on the go. This app is not intended to replace the Halo Learn website.

Once you install the Halo Learn mobile app, be sure to enable Halo Alerts for your account by clicking on the ‘My Halo Settings’ link under the No Halo Alerts message. Students and Faculty can elect to receive several different Halo Alert messages in the mobile app. Both faculty and students can elect to receive alerts when new private messages and new announcements are posted. Halo students can choose to receive alerts when assessment grades are published, assessments are reassigned, and new group collaboration messages are posted for group assignments. Both students and faculty can expect additional alert types to be added later in the year.

All alerts in Halo are opt-in, giving you the flexibility to choose which alerts to receive and on which devices. You can easily adjust your alert preferences directly in the mobile app or on the Halo website. Please note that you must have an active Halo Learn account with GCU or a GCU partner school to use the Halo Learn mobile app.

What’s New

Version 1.0.1

In this release, we addressed several user-reported bugs, including one that caused users to intermittently receive an 'Unexpected Error' when logging into their Halo account in the mobile app and one that prevented the mobile device from being removed from the device list correctly when uninstalling and reinstalling the mobile app on their mobile device. We also improved the way the Halo Learn mobile app loads to prevent an issue related to a font not loading correctly, causing the app to crash for a small number of users.

Future Modifications

The Halo app would be more useful is the app allowed us to view our classes from the app. Not just when we receive notifications, but also to interact with files and things provided by our instructor if we are not able to get to a computer. The mobile web browsers can get the job done, but having to jump through hoops to get to what we need like multiple log ins or having to go through different phone tabs is more work than it’s worth. Notifying of activity is the only purpose, then this app should be disabled and these notifications can be sent through email.

Finally!!

I really like the notification part of the app. I would suggest an option for students to receive notifications of an assignment that’s coming up/due that day or for online students, reminder to submit a substantive post if they haven’t done all three.
Halo is accessible through the app you just have to go through alerts which is slightly annoying. Also the app randomly shuts down and keeps signing me out. But very happy that the first couple of steps were taken!

Changed my College Experience

This app has changed everything about online learning. As an online student before this app I was never aware if my grades were submitted or if the professor posted an announcement unless I went through the whole process of logging in through a browser and viewing it that way. Now I get a notification and can view the grade or message through the app! Every online student needs this
