I have spent hours and a fortune searching for the best database. This one is no doubt the worst I have ever seen. I have been using the tap forms database for several months, but after having problems with the sync I went searching for something new. After spending the $9.99 for this app (which will cost another $9.99 if I want the iPhone version), I discover that you can't even customize without spending an additional $4.99 to customize forms. This app is confusing, bloated with worthless junk, has a lousy interface, poor graphics, and a poor design. You will find that in order to make any changes, you have to hide the keyboard to access buttons that get hidden behind the keyboard. It is insanely annoying and time consuming. All the controls are hard to find, and fields get hidden at the bottom of the page and you can't scroll down because the screen automatically kicks back up, so you can't access the fields at the bottom of pages (and this is on the forms built in to the app, so I can't imagine how bad customized forms would be. After trying out 8 databases on the App Store, this is no doubt the worst I have ever seen. It should be telling that they don't have a lite version that you can try before buying the full version-if they did they would never be able to sell this junk. For now, I will stick with the tap forms database, which can be purchased much much much cheaper and allows you to customize all you want. My advice is to stay far away from this one.
Excellent barcode scanner!

I've been a long time user - since Palm Pilot days and have been generally happy with the capabilities but have not stretched to product - just use it for general databases. I had a project which required the collection of a large number of serial numbers from equipment with barcodes. I tried several dedicated barcode scanner apps on the iPad without much success. I finally decided to check to see if HanDBase had any scanner capability and after a few minutes on the DDH forums, found out how to create a database with fields populated by the built in scanner. The database suits my purpose and the scanner is very accurate and reliable. The ability to sync with my Mac and then export the data in CSV allows importing into other systems. This product has a lot of capabilities that are not well publicised but fortunately the forums are really helpful. If you are looking for a database manager with more than just basic functions, this is definitely worth the money.
Buggy. Support Unavilable

Longtime HandBase user with a few bumps along the way, but the new iPad app is causing me serious issues. In one file created with iPod version the first two, critical fields do not show in the list view, although a backup file with the same settings shows perfectly. There is no longer any direct support for the product. A support forum is inaccessible due to a flawed captcha process (sign in security). For four days now the requests for sign in support sent to the address provided have bounced because the mailbox is full. The separate form creator, which is essential for good data base usage, was purchased but does not appear to have downloaded or be about to.HandBase for iPod appears to be more limited in db control than its predecessors. The icons for field editing in the menu view are unresponsive. In the iPod version, furthermore, the contents of one file disappeared completely. (ergo the backup file). This seems to occur occasionally. Suggest researching similar products before committing to this. It is one of the few software products, apps I know which has become less user friendly over the years
One of the best apps for the iPad

I have been using HanDBase since the early days of the Palm Pilot. When I switched to a Blackberry I became quite upset since the application never worked very well on that platform. But with the iPad the application once again deserves 5 stars. HanDBase is a general purpose database program that I feel has significantly more capability than Bento, although the basic installation is devoid of pretty graphics. But if what you are looking for is a rather complete package with the capability of defining your own fields, linking to other databases and records, computed fields, and reasonably complex searching and filtering, then you can't beat this program. There is also a desktop version that can read and write databases generated on the iPad and vice-versa. There is much more capability in HanDBase than I will ever use. I can't believe you get so much fo only $10.
- Removed certain sample databases included in previous update
- Adjusted quick search bar text color to be more easily readable.
