HardwareNotifier 4+

Hardware Notifier seems to do its one job well, letting the user know if something is connected via USB. It might be handy detecting certain devices that get turned off or periodically reboot on their own. It's older, but still works on an M1 Mac with Ventura. No obvious signs of it causing other system issues.

It gives only generic information, such as "IO Host Device." If you are looking for port assignments to comunicate special devices (i.e., "/dev/tty.usbserial-M2UTMZ2") ,you still lhave to use the terminal or other app.

It's pleasing to get more use out of the notification center, and this utility works exactly as advertised with little memory use.

That said, this is one-trick pony: USB devices connected and disconnected. I hope to see the developer add more functionally — support for firewire or thunderbolt, or volumes if allowed by the Sandbox. One could argue the neccesety of a pay-ware feature which visually notifies the user that they have just physically plugged something in, but a notification when a volume is mounted or dismounted would make this useful.

The app is a good idea, but the problem is the app cannot run faceless.

That is to say, you end up with a badge in your dock that cannot be hidden.

It would be nice to be able to hide the dock icon.
