Still ordered alphabetically / Bad interface
There are some awesome options on here, I’m very impressed. However, HBO will always lose to the other streaming services until they fix the way they order their titles. Every section is ordered alphabetically, which is insane to me. There are hundreds of movies to go through, so you have to look through all the titles you don’t care about and hope you find a good one as you go down. People don’t know what they’re looking for when they open a streaming app, eople want to be shown what they want to watch by seeing something interesting. Netflix succeeds by ordering titles in an order that is tailored to your preference, not alphabetically. I’m shocked they still continue to do it this way, despite being the only streaming service that I know of that orders everything alphabetically. They’ll never beat Netflix if they don’t change this. I’m not looking through hundreds of titles from A-Z.
Also, it’s one of those apps that refreshes every time you leave the app and it doesn’t hold on the screen where you left off. Countless times I’ve had to start at the home page when I just left the app for 10 seconds to send a text or something. Hopefully they figure some things out and improve their interface.
Functionality not quite there
The app seems to work for the most part, but I don’t like a few things: it seems weird that when I click on something in the continue watching section, there is no way for me to pick another episode from there. It seemed I had to go to the search option to find the show and THEN I could pick the episode I wanted, rather than where I left off (I often fall asleep while it’s on auto play and have to go back.) Also, it keeps giving me the cellular warning over and over, even tho I’ve turned that fiction off in the settings. One time it changed my setting for streaming with cellular data, and wouldn’t play at all until I switched the setting back. So weird.
One more comment, why does the iPhone app allow you to jump ahead 15 seconds but the browser version on my computer does not?
All in all the app is okay, and I like the extra content as compared to HBO now. But why the separate version of HBO? Just come out with one for goodness sake!

Great content! App is crap...
I love the content they have. Friends, Fresh Prince, and Big Bang are all great shows from over the decades. They also have a nice selection of movies. At the moment, their “Max” originals are lacking but it’s new so I will give them time.
The issue I have is that AT&T has never put out an app that isn’t full of frustrating glitches. This hasn’t changed with HBO Max. For example, most of the time when starting a show or movie, it gets stuck on buffering and no matter how long you wait it will not play. I end up having to go out and restart the show several times. The same thing happens when it auto plays the next episode. Then, when the show does start playing, sometimes it’s a completely different episode than the one I selected. For a company who has massive resources, there’s no excuse for putting out an app that doesn’t accomplish the one thing it’s designed to do. At least AT&T is generous enough to include HBO Max with their unlimited elite plan. That is the only reason I put up with these issues otherwise I wouldn’t waste my money.
Update: Most of my streaming’s problems are when I’m connected to my TV through the digital AV connector. It seems when I watch movies or series directly on the iPad it’s not as glitchy.
