Take it with a grain of salt

In my laymen opinion

I think this app is good for IDing suspicious moles but see a doctor before you fear skin cancer. I got somewhat inconsistent results, which depended on the angle and zoom setting (it’s hard to know what is 3x to 10x on my phone).

However, tbf the majority of the picture results was accurate (it was not cancerous).

Two false positives

I had a growth on my left arm. This app said it was malignant, but I checked again, and it said no. Of course I went to the doctor, and she said it was fine. Weeks later, My wife found a large spot. The app said Malignant. I took a second photo, which said Malignant as well. I went to my doctor, and she said it was common and benign. I have NO confidence in this app, and I think it should be avoided.

False positives on common growths

This app has a very negative impact on society. I have multiple cherry Angiomas (very common benign skin lesion) that doctors have examined. This app consistently identifies these common growths as malignant. Making people think they have skin cancer when they don’t is not acceptable and creates a lot of unnecessary anxiety.
