HEARTS of SPACE is the original, premier national showcase for ambient, contemplative, and space-creating music. Listeners describe the show as 'addictive,' 'essential,' and ‘sublime’—a consistently high-quality experience with refined, emotionally significant music that goes far beyond simple relaxation.
Our new, completely rewritten 4th generation Hearts of Space mobile app offers iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch users free, anytime access to our new shows up to 4 times each week. Shows change and the free play allotment resets on Fridays around midnight Pacific Time.
New in-app SETTINGS allow you to customize your experience. You can now browse and SEARCH the entire Hearts of Space collection of programs and albums within the app and make and edit personal PLAYLISTS and FAVORITES (now a 3-star rating that also allows you to block any program you don’t want to hear). Apps offer glitchless audio “backgrounding,” Bluetooth and AirPlay support, and up to 256 kBps streaming in the high-quality AAC format.
SUBSCRIBERS gain higher levels of access, choice and interactivity. One subscription works on all your mobile devices and all but prehistoric laptops and desktops. For a seamless musical experience, subscribers can turn voiceovers off, and use interactive stream navigation, a sleep timer, and auto-repeat.

ABOUT HEARTS of SPACE
Beginning as a pioneering late night radio show in the San Francisco Bay area in 1973, the program continues to offer "slow music for fast times." Hearts of Space evolved its own unique format — a calm, space-creating mix of ambient, electronic, world, new age, classical, contemplative, and experimental music from many eras and cultures. The breadth and depth of this musical focus is the secret of our longevity. A weekly one-hour show was nationally syndicated on the NPR network starting in 1983 and has been heard by millions of radio listeners ever since.
In 2001, we were one of the first independent music producers to offer an online streaming service. While we continue to serve our radio network, our main focus today is our web site and mobile apps.

Much Improved New App
Like many here, I have been an HOS listener since the 80s. The previous version of the iOS app was never great but it was getting increasingly decrepit. If left in the background, even if not playing anything, it would chew up the battery in a few hours. Also, not being able to manage playlists from the iOS app was a big hole in functionality.
So far, I am very pleased with this newest incarnation. It’s nice to be able to add a show to my playlist without having to go to the HOS web site, skipping ahead or back in a show works fairly well, and I like the Voice Over and Sleep Timer controls right they at the bottom of the program player. The organization of the “Music” page is a lot easier to work with. Plus just sitting and waiting in the background when I’m not playing anything, the app barely touches the battery. Now I won’t find myself with a dead phone before noon because I forgot to kill the HOS app in the background when I got up in the morning.

HOS is a real treat for the soul and mind
I have been a long time listener and found this program on the local WFYI radio station in Indianapolis Indiana, Sundays at 10pm and I never missed. Then, I moved away and was sad until I discovered the app. I didn’t mind the old version, but the new version is much better. HOS brings me new music I would have never found otherwise, and has been a real treat over the years. Don’t forget to purchase a coffee mug for those cold, rainy days. Amazing library of inspiration
If you are a fan of electronic and New Age music, this app and program is a profound treasure. If you love music from yoga or just want to relax you will discover layers and layers of beauty in these programs. Love that on this app I can make playlists as well. There’s only one glitch that I found so far which has to do with the login but nothing affecting security. I really enjoy the interface of this app, all the text from the introductions, the wonderful archive that it is.
