Multitask with ease.
Helium is a floating browser window that allows you to watch media while you work. Your content will never fall behind your other windows even as you switch tasks.
Look your work in the eye.
Helium supports a customizable translucency mode that allows you to simultaneously see your content and your work. Even cooler, Helium does not intercept mouse clicks when it is translucent! That's right, you can still click, drag, scroll, even flick behind your floating content. When you want to interact with the browser again, just click the icon in the dock and you're back in control.
More than fun.
Helium is useful for all kinds of multitasking, not just television and movies. Imagine keeping your Google Hangouts or Slacker window above the rest while you collaborate, or watching tutorials and reading documentation while programming—the possibilities are endless!
Ratings and Reviews
Great at what it does, want it to do more.
First of all, if you're looking for this app, you'll probably end up loving it. Adjusting translucency is easy, and there are shortcuts for everything
Things that could make me love the app more:
1) When using cmd L to enter a URL, it would be nice if the typing cursor was automatically placed in the url bar.
2) I cannot seem to get this app to open a jpg, and i imagine there are some other common files it cannot open. If helium could do this, it would nearly be a full browser. Would be awesome for holding up a screenshot of notes translucent over another program
I FREAKING LOVE THIS!
I love Apple. I really do. But sometimes they think they know SO much better than you what you want and need. Apple has specifically removed "Always on Top" as a system feature, and it has disappeared from browsers like Chrome that used to support it. They did so in order to avoid "unexpected behaviors". I get that they don't like that, buy I'M THE END USER! So let ME decide which unexpected behaviors I'm willing to tolerate when I need functionality like this. Give us a pop-up warning us that turning on "Always on Top" could cause these behaviors and let me get back to work!
This app works GREAT! It does exactly what I need. Could there be more bells and whistles? Sure. But it's free, so I'm perfectly content with this. THANK YOU for this! I'm an aspiring iOS app developer, and I need tutorials while I'm learning. I'm also an online college student, so I need browser windows showing me information while I'm watching a lecture or writing a paper. To CONSTANTLY be switching between windows when I could just have Helium at 60% transparency letting me see what I need, how I need it... just, thank you!
Saved my LIFE
Helium ACTUALLY saved my life. Here I am, a college freshman, interning at a small business over the break. Of course, being an intern, my job is to do all the boring things that no one else wants to do. I’m talking endless spreadsheets, mind-numbing data entry, that sort of stuff. So what am I to do for eight hours a day, stuck doing the most boring things known to man? Enter Helium. I was able to get all my work done without going insane from boredom by watching Netflix through Helium. It never got in the way of my work, could be resized, moved anywhere, even sometimes could change the opacity. Finally, I could be productive while entertaining myself and neither got in the way of the other. Helium, you saved my life from being overcome by even the most mind-numbingly boring work possible. Thank you!!!
