Great to track tardies!
My high school has been using the HERO system now for the past three school years. The app makes it very easy for us to track tardies and assign immediate consequences. It’s been great at processing students through what used to be a lengthy process. It’s also great for giving immediate positive behavior points. There’s nothing like whipping out your phone to give HERO points to really get students working.
However, there are a couple things I wish it did that it isn’t currently capable of: 1. It would be great to have a student picture associated with each kid. That way they can’t give someone else’s name when they are tardy! 2. For the love of all things, please find a kid’s name even if there’s a space after the first or last name. 3. It would also be great if it found similarly spelled names. For example, the spellings of Dishaun and Deshaun are remarkably similar. If both could pop up after I search the name that would be great. It helps to find students a little more quickly.
Tl;dr: Useful app & great program!
Accessible but sometimes clunky
This app is great for traveling around the school or field trips. Otherwise, I opt to keep a clipboard with student reward points and enter later because it can be time consuming. It’s not as streamline as the computer interface but it still works and my students love to see when I have the app out.
I’ve been using this program for a few months now on my desktop and tablet computers and it has worked great.
I cannot seem to easily use or navigate this app on my new iPhone. I don’t see any list of students from which to easily select to issue points or use for attendance. It appears you can only use the search to find a student one by one or use the scannner/camera to capture a group. Keep in mind that if I could find any sort of help or guidance within the app, I would be a bit more impressed.
Now I need to decide whether to delete this app and share the findings with my school team or keep searching for how to easily use this app.
