Best workout tracking app I’ve tried

This is by far my favorite workout tracking app, and I’ve tried quite a few over the past year including the popular Strong app. You can tell that the creators of this app actually work out themselves because they know how important it is to be able to label drop sets, failure sets, supersets, etc, which you can do very easily within the app. It allows me to track everything I need, and when if it’s been a while since I did an exercise I can easily take a look at my history, view graphs of my strength progression over time, and so on.

I started out with the free version but have since upgraded to the Lifetime membership because I needed to create more than 5 custom exercises since I do quite a few unusual calisthenics things, but most gym-goers can probably stick with the free version and have everything they need.

The social feature - being able to follow other members - is also nice. That said, I wish there was a way to upload short video clips of workout sets so that there would be some somewhat verifiable proof of what people are lifting, rather than just having to blindly accept the weight people enter into the app as being true. But, this isn’t that important. The important thing for me is that this app allows me to easily track every aspect of my workout so that I can see my progression and know where I’m at.

Kept Me Accountable

I have been using this app since January. I saw people on Reddit saying it was good and they had a promotion for like half off a year subscription. So I took the plunge. I love it. It’s the thing that had kept me in the gym this year because it helps me see results. I love how it syncs with my watch and I can input the weight and reps on my watch or phone. I appreciate that it supplies workouts for different splits so I don’t need to pay for a trainer. I love how it holds the last rep and weight from the previous time I did the exercise so I can work towards improving weight or reps. I love how it tracks my workouts and all the data it supplies. I am obsessed that it will track your rest time when you complete a set and play a tone to tell you rest is over. It will also play this tone over the music or as a buzz on your Apple Watch to do another set. (There are times it doesn’t work but mostly it does). It also provide nice visual tutorials of doing the exercise with some copy as well. I do wish it walked me though how to measure myself better but that’s a VERY small negative to truly nothing but positives I have. I also don’t use the social piece too much but I have taken some other people’s workouts just to switch it up every once and a while. I will be renewing next year 100%

Almost perfect by missing a major one

I have been jumping around using different apps for the last 5 years since I started doing workouts in my late 40’s. As a busy business professional with a family, my goal is to keep myself healthy and hope to live a longer quality life. Hevy has a great simple UI and available at various Apple devices including Apple Watch complications. It is better than other alternatives and definitely a plus. Yet it is not that far ahead. I expect others could easily catch up or even run ahead.
As many fitness YouTubers started to emphasize, the key in fitness is about reducing frictions to actually do the workouts. Since I don’t have any impressive figures or stats, the social sharing features are more or less a blah and sometimes a distraction to spending time on workouts or other better things in life. I could see how some people would really enjoy that.
So it hasn’t drawn me enough to upgrade to Pro. I found myself usually pay for apps that are lean toward helping me to get the main things done faster, easier and more consistent. What would take me across the line is having Apple shortcuts and api integration. So I could automate with Things3, Streaks, Apple HomeKit, and NFC tags and increase my chances of actually do the workout and use the app.
I’m looking forward to become a paid customer when these integration becomes available.
