Description

Soft morning light filtered through the curtains of Emi’s small Brooklyn apartment. At her feet, Momo stretched lazily, eyes half-closed in contentment. Emi checked her phone, smiling at the message: "You’ll find your rhythm today." A comforting whisper from her past self.

She had found HiFutureSelf by chance one rainy evening, exploring apps to soothe her restless mind. The app let her send small reminders, carefully timed for when she needed them most. Emi often forgot small things—like bringing her grocery list to Trader Joe’s, feeding Momo during busy mornings, or simply breathing calmly in the city's rush.

Now Emi set location-based reminders regularly: her grocery list appearing as she entered the market, gentle prompts to slow down as she left home. She loved leaving secret messages that surfaced when she needed reassurance.

HiFutureSelf allowed reminders to repeat, blending into her everyday life. Simple messages encouraged her to drink water throughout the day and prepared her for yoga classes every Tuesday and Thursday evening. Momo seemed happier too, noticing Emi’s newfound calm.

On her home screen, small widgets gently revealed future messages, quiet reassurances waiting patiently.

One afternoon, Emi realized she could send these future messages to her friend Kate, who often felt overwhelmed by city life. She scheduled a secret note for next week: "Everything will align soon. Trust yourself," paired with a candid photo of Kate laughing as she played with Momo on Emi's sunlit apartment floor.

As the city darkened into evening, Emi composed another message to her future self: "You’re doing just fine." She released it softly into the days ahead, trusting it would arrive precisely when needed—a quiet lifeboat on the sea of time.

Excellent Single Purpose App

And Now for iPad!

Thank you to the developer for listening to my suggestion for an iPad version. Now works perfectly in landscape mode. This app does exactly what it says. Write yourself an email for a reminder sometime in the future. It will show up right when you need it.

Updated update (yeah, I know): I was contacted by the developer who tells me that an update with iPad version + landscape mode is coming soon. Thank you.

Review Update: I have completely stopped using this app because it will not work on an iPad in landscape mode.

• Here’s a request to the developer (whom I have previously contacted via email on this issue). Please adapt this to iPad and landscape mode.

There are a large number of people who would use this app if it would work in landscape mode. For any type of writing or written communication I use an iPad almost exclusively. I use a keyboard. I use something other than Hi Future Self that actually works.

Previous review (was 5 stars):

This app has been around for awhile, but now with and update. I have been using this for a long time. I often send email reminders to myself that arrive days, months, or years into the future. It saves me on anniversaries, or birthdays, or other distant events.

Of course if you think that current politics will result in a destroyed planet you won't need this app.

Very Useful

This is a great & useful app. I use it regularly. Users should be careful not to overuse, or risk becoming dulled to the reminders. With some self discipline, it‘s very effective & useful. Seeing the continued increase in Alzheimer’s, Dementia & general brain fog, the app should thrive, and continue to develop & improve.
To that end, I WOULD LOVE SOME NEW ALARM SOUND OPTIONS. I’d even pay for some. The current options (which haven’t changed in the ~couple years I’ve had app) are OK, but I wish there were double/triple the options, so I could set more unique reminders.
I also wish I could PASTE PICS/SCREENSHOTS into the reminder text, so I could just use an image as a reminder, vs having to input the reminder through text only, which takes much longer. I use emojis to compensate, but those take longer than pics would too, and are limited.
75% perfect app, 25% room for improvement.
Having said all that, this IS a FREE app, and maybe other paid reminder apps already have what I long for.

Thank you for the review! Would love your help with picking the new ringtones! Send me a quick email david@hifutureself.com and I can send you a few samples and we can pick the best ones! Made a note on the photo messages option, it’s on the roadmap!

Edit: Thank you so much Nelson! Thanks to you, we have 8 new ringtones in HiFutureSelf!

Edit 2: Nelson! We have it! In the latest update, you can now attach images to your future messages! Thank you for this review and encouraging me to improve the app! Let me know what you think! If you're still enjoying HiFutureSelf, I'd totally appreciate an updated review :)

Great app- one small suggestion!

So far, I’m really enjoying this app. The current functionality should take care of what I downloaded this app to do, specifically. However, I was trying to think of other ways to use this app, and the first thing that came to my mind was a reminder to take the recycling out every other week. Unless I’m mistaken, I don’t see an option to set reminders over a custom set of time. In this instance, it would be biweekly. So every 14 days. I have zero expectations that something like this will be added, but just wanted to suggest it in case the developer is reading this and thinks it’s a good idea.

Thanks for developing such a thoughtful app! 😊

Developer Response ,

Thank you for using HiFutureSelf! I’m so glad you’re enjoying the app. There isn’t a 14 day repeat option yet, but I’ve added it to the roadmap. Thank you for the suggestion!
