  • Great App! Just one suggestion

I love this app! I read a lot of books from the library and often want to remember the moments that stuck out to me or made me laugh even after I’ve returned a book, so this app has been great! It’s super easy to use and well designed. The one thing I would really like to see added is the ability to italicize. Some of my highlights lose clarity when the italics from the original text are left out. Otherwise, this is a perfect app!

I’ve got around 20 books in this app now. It was massively useful when in grad school- I could highlight from a library book and then easily cite my work. I can also export highlights to do some wonderful thinking with the help of AI. The more I highlight, the more I can get creative in this regard. It’s faster for me than underlining and writing on the margins, and infinitely more legible. For the serious student, or just the serious thinker, this app is a must.

  • So simple I love it.

I’ve been using an app that tracks reading time, it can highlight but can’t take notes on the quote I’m saving. The UI is really distracting to the point that it feels like a chore to read. This app feels different. I can save quotes and take notes about my thoughts on the quote. Really love It.

  • This has served me best of all apps

There are no accidents in the universe and this app proved it again. I never look in the App Store but for some reason one day I did and happened to see this app. I thought “wow” I hope this works. And it did. I read over 50 books a year and am never without a highlighter. But when I finish the book and put it away, all that effort seems lost. Now I can have all the pertinent material right at the tips of my fingers. Of all the apps I have I use maybe 4 routinely. This is one of those 4 and I am so grateful to the developer.

I think it’s really good because I’ve always wanted to annotate my library books (can’t do that physically) and this app has made it really helpful for me to actually annotate if whatever I just said makes sense. Anyway, I do have a problem that just came with a new update and that is how much harder it is to take a picture of the page I’m reading. The new camera thing really pisses me off. Another thing is that there aren’t newer books in the database. I found that a book released two years ago from the year I am writing this is not in the database and I just had to do it manually. Not a big deal but it is a hassle.

2024: app is continually amazing. I recommend it wholeheartedly.2022: Highlighted is THE elegant app I always hoped someone would originate—to digitally highlight physical books. eBook quotes and passages can be sent to Highlighted via a Shortcuts app shortcut—as long as either “copy” (or) the iOS share-sheet can be invoked within an eReader. (Apps like Libby will not work, but Apple’s Books app will work.) Accurate OCR (text recognition) is the principal star of Highlighted, making it incredibly easy to save passages of interest. Entries are then globally searchable and easy to export. Artifacts of poorly captured OCR itself are rare. And when aberrations occur it is simple things I’ve seen with almost any OCR capture app. Highlighted seems to work best when you capture text passages in succession, like long paragraphs, rather than whole pages at once. And if you capture text where fragments of text (or sentences) are misplaced, a steady hand and a very clean capture window fixes that tendency. Highlighted is a beautifully designed app, making for a fantastic reading companion. It also supports several languages, with more on the way. And built in ISBN scanning makes it incredibly easy to add new books. Updates are frequent, well considered, and reflect a hard working and thoughtful developer, who's really hitting his stride. Super impressed. All I need now is a tip jar. 2024: app is continually amazing. I recommend it wholeheartedly.
