This is the most dishonest company I've ever dealt with. I signed up for their annual plan via their website with auto renewal. On the signup page, it was stated in bold that it had a 30 day money back guarantee. There were no links/asterisks or other indications that pointed to the fact that this was a conditional guarantee. When my connection speed dropped more than 90% using all protocols and their US West Coast servers, I tried to cancel the plan. They told me that I exceeded the 100 connection condition. In fact they told me that I had made more than 2,000 connections in the 10 days that I had the accounts, so no refund. I filed a dispute resolution with Paypal, and the agent said that Paypal was aware of this company's reputation. I now use ibVPN, and am very happy with it, fast on all protocols on the same server locations. I get 97% of my line maximum speed. If HMA is this dishonest with their advertising, I hate to think what they do with the data that is routed through their servers, regardless of what they say in their policy.
Chose the 1-month subscription because I was traveling out of the country and didn't need it longer than that. The app shows the expiration date of the subscription, but what it doesn't show is the status of your iOS subscription service. It was set to "Auto-renew" so I was billed for a second month of subscription. It is very convenient that Apple and HMA can each claim no responsibility (HMA can't refund the money, Apple will say it was my fault because of their obscure setting that essentially masks a renewal on something I clearly didn't want). As for the app itself, I've used earlier versions traveling in Canada and Singapore, and this one seems to work better. Haven't tried others so hard to compare. Maybe they deserve more stars but I believe in high customer satisfaction. It ought to be possible for the app to detect your iOS subscription renewal settings. Fix that and you'll get a higher score!
Good server selection, but the VPN disconnect if there is a change in cellular data strength, switch to wifi or vice versa, or when moving possibly between cell tower ranges. I'm in the U.S. and different carriers may have different experiences. Also HMA's profile is listed not verified in settings for changing profiles when changing servers ( possibly cause an old go daddy signing certificate expired and is still listed but there are valid certificates )Others VPN providers I'm testing do stay connected more consistently and reconnect when there are changes to data strength or sources ( maybe HMA not verified listing or status has something to do with it). But when connected to steady data stream, works great, good VPN encryption and tons of servers and great for laptops/PC.
i have been using HMA for years… this app is the bomb. Very smartly lets you switch through certified vpn profiles. you just pick the country profile you need. Hardly suffers loss of speed i find, but if it does you can easily switch location. The only thing that could be improved is the explanation how to do it. In the app you choose a profile with a location and this then gets installed in the general vpn settings of your phone.but once you have figured that one out, it is easy. With most VPN's you have to manually insert all of this data which was a pain, so this is a giant improvement. I love, truly love this app
I have used this service for quite a while, using domestically and overseas. I have also tried a few other VPN services, but never continued with them because they did not compare with HMA. Great customer service, quick and easy connections. Never a problem with speed. Totally recommend this service over others that pay for positions in a search engine and have thousands of questionably "rave" reviews. Go with this one.
Hey there, thank you so much for this feedback. We are happy to hear you like our service and we hope others will start to enjoy it as well :) Regards, HMA team
Buyer Beware.I have been using HMA for over 18 months. I use this service exclusive to watch Netfix while living abroad. While the desktop app works relatively well, the IOS app does not.Often times the data stream is so limited logging into the above app may take five seconds to more than a minute. Data choking seems to occur about 20% of the time regardless of time of day. At least twice a week (once a day during heavier usage) I'll get "Netflix has not come to your part of the world" message despite being connect to VPN. This may or may not be due to the inferiority of the VPN service. This is annoying to say the least.Even when the two above problems don't occur, I find that my phone or iPad is disconnected with 20 minutes of view, where this will stop the program all together or when I am lucky, allow me to finish the program. These problems have been persistent for over a year and occurs whether pptp, l2pt, or the new IPSec, which is touted to be better.Perhaps those in the U.S. who actually use this service to remain hidden have better results.By the way: Don't ever expect a refund.
