Learning to Read

Growing up I didn’t learn to read by embracing phonics. For me, words themselves were intricate pictures with audible names I remembered by their overall appearance. I was 70 years old before I realized why I had no idea how others could pronounce words they had never heard spoken before or spell words they had never seen. This app has been a tremendous help to me in my ongoing process of learning to apply phonics to my speech and writing endeavors.

Howsay accurate and clear

When it comes to pronunciation, the internet is the Wild West. They just take a few people and have them say the word and don’t check to see how correct the pronunciation is. Frequently, I feel their method of saying the word is incorrect. I go to many sources to see what is the real standard. I find the Oxford Dictionary is very good, (sometimes swayed too much by Britain’s pronunciations), American heritage is excellent but Howsay is almost always right on!

Great learning tool for those suffering with a learning disability

This is a great app to use if you suffer with dyslexia. Sometimes hearing to the words pronounced aids with the learning the phonics of the words. Also, useful to see the words broken down in phonics and definition, then listen to the app pronunciation ensuring you have pronounced the word correctly.
