Best Hurricane Tracker App
Living on the Gulf Coast, hurricanes are a part of life every summer & early fall. It’s essential to have accurate, timely information on tropical weather formation.
I’ve tried many different tracking apps and hands down this is the best of them all by far. The in depth information, spaghetti models, graphics, and discussions that are easy to understand for people that aren’t weather nerds or meteorologists make it the perfect app. The options on each screen allow users to get in-depth weather nerd details or fairly basic information or both by clicking the various icons on the bottom of each screen.
The best feature and what sets it apart from other apps I’ve tried is the Alerts feature. Again, you have choices! In the app settings you’re able to select what alerts you want to receive, how you want to receive them, and for the regions you follow. When I receive an alert from the app, it is an actual alert and never spam type promotion for the developers’ other apps nor requests for money to enable features. Hurricane Tracker alerts are actual weather alerts!
I’ve used Hurricane Tracker for 4 years and can’t imagine Hurricane Season without it!
Great! One wish.
Love the Hurricane Tracker App and used it a great deal during the recent visit of Hurricane Irma.
Hurricane Tracker has a wealth of information that will delight the weather enthusiast and anyone who wants all the necessary information to monitor one of nature's fiercest beasts. I have sampled many hurricane tracker apps and it is clearly the best I have found.
Because of that, I was surprised to find that the app does not provide a high-resolution map (for example, Google Maps) with the most probable storm track superimposed over it. Almost all the maps are provided by the NHC. They are quite low-resolution. I understand that hurricane tracks are part science (a big part) and part magic. So, for example, a high-resolution map, with a thin, high-resolution line predicting that Hurricane Irma will go just to the east of Key West would have to be taken with a grain of salt. But, I still would REALLY like to have such a map included in Hurricane Tracker! Right now, any attempt to zoom in on any map to gather a more detailed view just produces pixelated ambiguity. It's frustrating and because of that I have to use other hurricane tracker apps in addition to this product.
I applaud Hurricane Tracker in many ways and have bought the iPhone and iPad versions. Hopefully, we'll get a high-resolution map feature in a future update.
Loved this app & it was so very helpful last year during hurricane season (I live in Florida). TS Arthur is now out there so checked the app for the first time this season. They have taken away the ability to save images/gifs which I do all the time & used to be able to do. The saddest part about the whole thing is the images are not even theirs to protect as they belong to the National Hurricane Center (NHC). I can go right now to the NHC website & save the exact same images from there as they permit saving. I just liked using the app. I upgraded my iPhone from an 8 to an iPhone 11 Pro shortly after it came out & it seems maybe that’s when things changed & the ability to save images was removed. I wanted to send an email to the App owner/developer to let them know as maybe this was inadvertent (& maybe it has something to do with the new iPhone) but there’s no way to contact them (other than twitter which I don’t know how to do) so my only option is to leave this review.
PLEASE FIX THE ABILITY TO SAVE IMAGES
If that is done, I will immediately come back & update this review. Until then I will no longer be using this app and will be getting my TS/hurricane information from the NHC which of course is FREE!!
Developer Response ,
Hey, thanks for your comments. Most of our updates occur on the server side and when Apple released iOS 13 it removed the ability to save images from within the code we use in our app. The best option is to use the share button in the app, it will take a screenshot of the image and you can crop & save/share from there. Easy work around. We didn't remove the ability to save images, Apple did and we will see if there's a way to restore it. Thanks!
