Description

This app is an easy to use aid designed to help individuals study and learn the Iñupiaq language.

Because the structure of the Iñupiaq language is very different from English, there is not necessarily a word-for-word correspondence. This dictionary app is a resource to foster understanding of Iñupiaq words but it is inherently essential for any student of any language to learn the grammar of the language they are studying.

This app was made possible through a partnership between the North Slope Borough, Iñupiat Heritage Center and the University of Alaska Fairbanks. The app would have not been achievable without financial support from the ECHO grant and all those that have worked diligently on the Iñupiaq dictionary over the years. The contents of this application were developed under a grant for the Department of Education. However, those contents do not necessarily represent the policy of the Department of Education and you should not assume endorsement by the Federal Government.

Teaching my kids

Love this app, it's great. Only way to make it better is to have a way to hear the word out loud. Please work on adding this feature even if it cost $$$. I would buy it. Using it to kids my grandchildren I am raising about their heritage language so they can be proud of where they come. Thank you for this wonderful app.

I LOVE THIS APP..Pls update

I love using this app! Constantly opening it up and looking up spelling and words with my daughter. I just updated my iPhone to and found out this app is not compatible with the new update. Would really appreciate if the app can be updated so I can continue to use it. I see on the App Store there are other Iñupiat languages apps however, they are Nana Region and would prefer to utilize the Northern dialect.

Excellent language app

I love this. I grew up in rural Alaska on the Seward Peninsula; I now live in Michigan. I love piecing together the words, but would love to hear the words out loud for better pronunciation. I also think a great thing to add to the app would be images for some of the words. I am hopeful to see more in the future! Qu'yaana!
