Simply Works as Advertized

This app worked beautifully for me on Snow Leopard and now it continues to work on Lion.
It's new "Quick" mode is great because it frees memory without much effect on the perormance of the other apps while the freeing is beeing done.
I don't think that the app itself can free memory for the operating system, because that would be "illegal". Instead, it appears that it tricks the operating system to do it by claiming a biggest possible chunk of memory for itself and forcing the operating system to re-arrange the rest of the memory in order to accomodate the need of this app. This is why when this process is being done (not in the "quick" mode), the whole computer becomes sluggish. Anyway, it's really a great app to have and I think it should be used occaisonally by anyone with a Mac.

Does what I need without any trouble

iCleanMemory has proven very helpful - especially while editing video or other demanding memory tasks. Even with 8GB of RAM in my 1 year old MacBook Pro, Final Cut Pro X starts eating through it pretty quickly. No more restarting or closing/reopening - just clean the memory and free it up after 30 seconds to a minute. Love it. I also love running it straight from the menu bar (hidden in the dock) with just the "Usage Chart" displaying - it's a clean and helpful interface. I haven't found the "Clean if free memory is below x" - I prefer to keep an eye on it and then clean the memory when I'm ready. Cleaning mid-render or at other times can cause instability in certain apps. That aside though, this has already proven to be a HUGE help!

It does the job well

I use 3 different brands of memory managers that essentially do the same thing. If you want really easy, basic and effective results, go no further. I can't mention the other brands but what this one does not tell you is what app might be secretly hogging ram even when it's running in the background, so if you want to dig deeper keep looking. I use This app first. If I am forced to defrag the memory a lot in one day, I switch to one that gives me everything that's running as a % of available ram. That can help if you have to ask iClean Memory to do its thing manually, which I have set to clean at the "depth" level, or midway between quick and developer, which I am not. It's a great app when I don't need to look further and I recommend it for anyone whose happy with set and forget!!
