It kind of works?
I have installed several of the dimming light sockets in my apartment. This app worked to set them up eventually after a few attempts. But once you install them, you can use them with Apples HomeKit app without a hitch. I wouldn’t recommend trying to control them through this app so much, though, because it’s very glitchy.
It seems that whatever firmware update past 1.4.26 that has been made available won’t even download.
The update I am dying for: If you turn these lights off with the app and then flip the light switch nothing happens (of course). But once you flip it back on, the lights turn on ONLY FOR ABOUT 15 SECONDS and then return to the off state your phone was on. If there is a way to update the lights so that when you turn them on with the light switch, they will stay on, this product would actually be reasonable to install throughout your house.
Also, the sockets are a little flickery with dimming bulbs.
Works So Far
I've had the light bulb adapter for a few days now and it's worked so far. The one annoying issue I have found is the adapter needs a firmware update, and the app never manages to get that done, and you have to babysit the phone to keep it on.
I have created "scenes" on a stand lamp I have behind my couch, which has a floor switch that's annoying to get to, and I'm able to use Siri to turn it on an off instead. I tested a distance command on the other side of town, and came home to the lamp on, so I would say it works so far. The real test will be of much greater distance.
I do find the adapter a little cumbersome in hindsight and originally bought it to use in my bedroom to create a 'someone is home' atmosphere, but sadly with it in use there my light bulbs are clear above the small lamp shades. So back to the living room it went, and perfectly fits in a large lamp shade. A work around to smaller lamps might be the plug adapter, at some point.
Works for me so far
Haven't been using it more than a day or so, but CommandKit works with the incipio plug in outlet & smart meter. Which has a horrifying blue wifi light that constantly blinks just to let you know the wifi traffic is a-ok! Great design idea, boys. But that's the device, this app allowed me to set it up fine. Took 2 tries to read the outlet number but worked the second time. Allows me to connect the stuff to HomeKit just fine, and I use that for automation. CommandKit app tells me there's a firmware update for my outlet, but when I try & update it, an error pops up saying "Invalid Parameter" and haven't gotten past that.
Hey these outlet are dirt cheap, and they allow me to automate a light to turn on in the morning and off when I leave. Their iOS development team probably won't win any awards anytime soon, but this app allowed me to get this dirt cheap plug working with my home so, B+ for you guys! 3 stars!
