Some serious flaws in this app
My braking score has consistently been in the mid 50s since I started using this app about a month ago. Today I made a very conscious effort to minimize my braking on a 12 mile trip. I got 8 red flags for braking on this trip! I guess when you are coasting down a hill and coming to a red light, you’re not allowed to brake. When another car pulls out in front of you, you’re not allowed to brake. When a light changes to yellow/red, you are not allowed to brake.
I am not used to opening the app and changing to passenger mode when a trip starts. I tried to change several previous trips to passenger but they remained as driver. I often play with my phone as a passenger so now I have a lousy distracted driving score when I NEVER use my phone when I’m driving. I suggest you add a function where the app sends a text message asking whether driver or passenger as soon as it detects motion.
The time of day score is a joke. I very rarely drive during rush hour or at night since I’m retired but my score is never that good even though most of my driving is midday.
The idea of this app is good but it definitely needs some work if my insurance rates are going to be determined by these scores.
Socialism at its best
So by law in Texas the insurance companies come together to pay for claims. So when a natural disaster hits its paid out of a whole
big pot. So when they pay out a lot are premiums goes up. They “created” this as a way to reward god drivers but get this not even an elderly who’s actually impedes traffic would get a good score with this system. And after the 121 trips if you remove the app they take away the discount. Also they will continue to monitor your driving and potentially change the discount you get. And if this isn’t enough to get you out of a discount they ensure they don’t have to by only giving you the discount you due earn at renewal. I’m pretty sure for most it’s ever year. So if by some miracle you get a good score you have to wait a whole year to get the discount which can be taken away any of the cycles of driving analyzing they do throughout that whole
Time. Save your self the privacy and time by shopping your policies and going with a company that only plugs into your car for a limited timeframe. Farmers has become very clear to me to protect their own interest on the interest of the ones who make their paychecks.
Needs much improvement
Overall the app is a decent alternative to having a physical tracker in the car, like insurance company’s such as State Farm have done. However, it is harsh with grading that physically cannot be controlled, such as the time of day score, and the mileage. When we have somewhere to be, we have to be there, people have jobs and must be at their place of work by a certain time, and counting against the person for driving early in the morning or at night is ludicrous. The mileage score is equally as bad of an idea. We have cars to drive them, and although adding mileage to the car brings down the cars worth, our insurance discount should not hold mileage against us. Again, we have places to be. I think the app works well outside of mileage and time of day, and I like being able to see the discount as well as what needs improvement.
