The pomodoro app I've been looking for

I love this app for many reasons (aside from fact that its free for me to use): 1) I can use the Pomodoro method to complete tasks and stay focused despite my ADHD. 2) There is a motivation feature that is not forced on me. You can earn "energy" by completing more pomodoros and tasks and that "energy" can be used to make some type of garden. I like to occasionally see just how much I've been able to do. 3) Colors and font (often ignored in other apps) are great. They're intentional and I find them helpful. (I enjoy the blue for breaks, the red for work) 4) I can also use to have some estimate of how long I'll need to complete a task. This simple feature of adding how many pomodoros are needed for a task has helped me both manage my time and be more willing to start tasks earlier. For example, once I see that a task can be completed in 2 easy pomodoros (about an hour) then I see it as more approachable and easy.

I honestly could go on. I love this app.

3 stars for desktop but the mobile version is better

I like the app. It's simple and helps me manage the distractability issues with my ADHD. I love the notification when the break is over. It reminds me of being back in grade school. But I don't like not being able to change the skin and color. I know it may seem insignificant but there is a psychology to color and the mobile app allowed me to have mountains and rivers. This red, seeded tomato is somewhat obtrusive. It would be nice if they could also add binuaral beats or isochronic sound options for the white noise. It's a basic app but there's plenty of these oridinary timers available. If the developers were to think outside of the box snd improve features and add functionality they could make it an attractive, comprehensive tool with the potential to be a must-have app for any person that needs to always get things done but also deal with mental barriers like me. Lastly, I love that I can create tasks within tasks and see how much time it takes me to get certain jobs I do done on a regular basis. I'm always trying to beat my record. Thank you.

Helpful, but mobile version is better

This is the best pomodoro app I've used. The insights are extremely helpful as well as the ability to create and tag work sessions with projects and tasks. The mobile version is much better though. For example, you can create and join groups on the mobile version, and there are other nice UI features (like different backgrounds etc). Lastly -- for all versions of the app -- it would be great if there was a way to enable the Pomodoro timer to keep tracking your minutes even if you go beyond the designated time limit. Another app let me do that (Focus Tomato) -- it was helpful for the times when I'm in the middle of something and the pomodoro timer goes off and I'm not ready to take the break yet but I still want to track my minutes worked towards my logged work for the day. That's the only main feature/ability that I would request. Overall, great product that has helped me keep better track of how I'm using my time. Thanks!

This is the best study app!

This is the best study app that incorporates the pomodoro method! I bought the full version of this app about 2 years ago and now I use it every single day. It has helped me remember all my college assignments.
I can also say within the 2 years this app has made improvements! They've added new features and have never just let their app go like some developers. I'd you haven't gotten it already I'd highly suggest you do, it looks like there's only better to come.

Two recommendations for the developers: please please I beg, bring themes and events to the mac/desktop version of the app. The new events feature has helped me so much by allowing me to plan when ill have my study sessions and what task ill focus on, I'd love to see this feature on my mac! Also I love colors!! There's some beautiful themes on the phone version it would be great if they were on the mac version too.

Tracking your effort across projects?

This is a great tool that combines the pomodoro technique and project/task management. It offers a rainbow of colors for optional tagging for task identification and it makes it easy to stay focused with timers and background gray noise built into the app.
There are a few things that I would add if I were a developer on this app...
We need to ability to modify several tasks/projects at once, such as tagging multiple tasks, or moving multiple tasks from one project to another.
We also need to ability to create multiple complete pomodoros at once. If I forgot to start the timer and worked through 5 virtual timers, I need to go back and account for those missed timers for that task. Instead of creating one huge 3 hour pomodoro for accountability, i would like to create 6 completed pomodoros against the task.

Almost Great

Focus To-Do offers the same level of customization, analysis, timer features and tasks, etc, as significantly more expensive subscription apps. The one downfall is the UI of the Mac app is slightly outdated. It does not have dark mode like the iPhone/iPad counterparts, and it lacks that transparent feature on the sidebar you can probably see on the Appstore sidebar you have open right now. If a minor UI change was done to support transparency & dark mode, I would update to 5 stars. It would help if you could change the timer background and if the colors of the stats matched the color of the project (when in the project, those big numbers at the top, but not a big importance). That being said, the app does a great job of creating a focus ecosystem you can access from any device, which is well worth while. If you are deciding between this, Session, Forest, and other to-dos, I would definitely give this one a shot.

Version 6.9: Lots of Defects

I've used Focus To-Do religiously since August 2020. I'm in grad school and I've logged almost 3,000 hours of pomodoros on it. I recently updated my desktop app to version 6.9, which changed the background and data dashboard (I'm not sure the last time I updated the app before this version, so I don't know when these changes were rolled out). I have been very disappointed in these changes. I miss being able to see the total pomodoros I had completed (rather than total focus time) and I don't really care about the data on my completed tasks. More concerningly, whenever I open to the data dashboard--especially when I'm in full screen mode--I'm unable to exit out of it to return to my project list without force quitting the app. This is a huge inconvenience, especially if I'm in the middle of a pomodoro. I wish I could restore the app to the previous version I had. I understand the desire to match the desktop app dashboard to the phone app, but it has too much going on.

better than drugs

I've struggled with being able to focus as long as I can remember, it didn't become a real issue until college and then trying to work on a computer all day (construction jobs as a teenager posed different challenges obviously).

In an age where medication seems to be the only way out for many, I've found that you need something to help you alter your behavior to really make a change for good. That's where this app comes in. Actually staying focused all day is mentally taxing hence the science behind the pomodoro. This is a great tool to help you not burn out but also flex the mental focus muscles and develop habits to channel your ADHD.

As for the UI: you can sync your data across practially any platform with the paid version. A really underrated feature is being able to track time spent on projects/tasks.

So far the best productivity tool I've found

I love this app for the pomodoro timer and as a project management tool but I do wish there were some tweaks/added features.

PROS:
I love the "strict mode" - a feature you can turn on/off that forces you to put your phone down/flip over once you start the pomodoro timer and if you pick your phone up during focus mode it will begin to alert you to flip your phone back over or the timer will be cancelled.

I love that I have the ability to sync my phone and computer together.

The desktop app allows me to see everything.

CONS/SUGGESTIONS:
(Mostly for the desktop app) I do wish there was a light/dark mode. Or even an option to change the background.

I also wish there was a calendar view.

If this app had the ability to add people to a project or create a team, that would be elite! Maybe if there was a subscription like Canva and you could add up to 5 people at a time. And if need be, you could remove and add new people pertaining to each project. If that ever happens, I definitely think there it should be free for students.

OVERALL: this is a great tool for someone who has ADHD, looking to manage their time better, juggling multiple projects, or all aroud wants to stay on top of their to-do lists in their personal or professional life.

Mobile app is better

I enjoy having the option to have the desktop app and I appreciate that I didn't need to pay extra to have both apps. I'm loving the pomodoro timers and I really like how much I can customize the tasks and timers to suit me. I like the reports because seeing my efforts stack up over time is very rewarding.

Things I would love to have improved: while you can sync data between mobile and desktop, I really wish the timers would sync as well. I'd like to be able to begin working on my desktop (or laptop) and then view that time on my phone or watch. Especially useful for when my break blocks have begun and I've stepped away from my computer.
Also, the mobile app looks like it's been well devleoped and the desktop app is lagging behind. I'd really appreciate the same features being offered across platforms.
