We can give you the chords that go together in C major, the chords for the arpeggios in D major for the solos, or the chords for the vocals in G major? Our app is built on a custom chord library that allows you to capture, write, and plan out all of your songwriting ideas to give you the kind of songwriting power you deserve.
What kind of songs will you write with that kind of information at your fingertip? Get ready to sound like the musical GENIUS you are even if you don't know the definition of an arpeggio yet.

Magical Pick is now...Song! We are gearing up for our new version and in the process we have learned so much about our wonderful users and why they have chosen to use Magical Pick. What we thought was a tool to help guitarist get quick songwriting inspiration is actually so much more, it's a tool to help anyone write a song, whether they play the guitar or not. The truth is, while making noise is mutual between everyone on earth, not everyone realizes is that they are also capable of finding a song in their noise whether they are a trained musician or not.
We have many many new features coming out in the near future and we are grateful to be able to share this first step with you, the rebrand, Song.
With Song, you can write by sound using chord families and communicate with a guitarist or another type of musician the song you hear in your head but don't know how to play on an instrument yet and a guitarist can use Song to get inspiration for new professions and write and save their musical ideas anywhere they are, not just with their guitar.
We hope to help you find your song within for many years to come!
Ratings and Reviews
For an app that costs a slam dunk of $10 I was expecting something a bit more high fidelity and feature rich.
What you’re paying for is a chord library, the ability to hear a little bit of how those chords sound in order, a recording section, and a notes section. While its nice to have everything in one place, the features are barebones. The voice recorder is much worse than the voice memos that comes standard with all iPhones. It doesnt let you trim recordings, if the phone screen shuts off (which happens automatically over time) it stops recording which means you can only play for 30s at a time, and the notes section provides nothing but the ability to write text.
As a person who has been writing songs for a while on his phone using Notes (free), Voice Memos (free), and the chord library in the Ultimate Guitar App ($3) I would say this app is not worth the money right now. It has great potential but needs a lot of fixes and a lot more features to be worth using

Hi CaptiveAudience no. 69, thanks so much for the thoughtful insight on your review; it’s wonderful when we get constructive feedback from users so that we can work on improving this tool to be a powerful songwriting asset. I’m probably digging into business stuff a bit, but I would say the bulk of the cost for this version is centered around the access to the unique chord family libraries that allow for fast inspiration and give you the ability to both see the chords and hear them. This was a multi-year effort from the creator of our library to gather what he saw as playable chords that fit the chord family criteria for most songwriters. Outside of getting those libraries functioning in an app environment, we added the other pieces (progression builder, notes, and recordings) as they seemed to be the most immediately handy for this type of app where the goal is to capture ideas and not necessarily fully produce them in the way that something like GarageBand would…sort of a precursor if that make sense. That being said, we did have a limited budget to start with and built as much as we could in the areas that made sense at the time, but couldn’t do everything we wanted from the get go. We have tons of improvements, features, and overall experience upgrades being conceptualized and planned out for future versions that we born out of great feedback like yours as well as things we believe would be incredibly helpful in the songwriting journey. We’ll be working to build and release those as effectively as we can and hope that you enjoy the app as it grows over time!
So much YES!!
A friend of mine told me about this app and I gave it a try and I love it! Such an awesome feeling to pop my earbuds on during the day and get lost in coming up with new song ideas and then know exactly what I want to try and play around with when I get back home. Just so much more focused, quality writing time in my opinion!
Also, to any other parents out there...my kids really dig playing on this! They tap around on chords and make little masterpieces to sing along with, probably a good way to get them into picking up an instrument when their hands get bigger :) Can’t wait to see what else you guys add to it as time goes on!

It’s a wonderful feeling to get feedback like this :) We’re so happy to hear about the positive experience for both you and your kids and hope it helps get them into music as well!
So fun to easily try new sounds out!
My favorite thing about this app is that I can have it spit out 14 random chords in a key I never play in and just jam out like I never have before. Really a game changer for coming up with new song ideas. Oh! I can also save them and not forget them and add my potential lyrics and little recording in one freaking place instead of opening three different apps on my phone like before. Definitely worth having on hand.
With Family Sharing set up, up to six family members can use this app.
