Learning to code has never been easier! Tynker Junior is the fun, interactive way to spark your child’s interest in coding. Young children (ages 5-7) learn the fundamentals of coding by snapping together graphical blocks to move their characters.

Tynker Junior was inspired by the award-winning Tynker programming language (, used by 60 million kids and in over 80,000 schools worldwide. The graphical language and user interface have been redesigned to make it easy for pre-readers, with word-free blocks, a tap-based interface with no dragging, friendly voiceovers, helpful hints, as well as a gentle progression of difficulty to motivate completion.

• Learn to code by solving puzzles and games
• Use picture-based block coding to solve problems
• Use picture-based block coding to solve problems
• Use events and parameters to fix an ancient robot factory
• Help endangered animals reach their home with loops and counters
• Design your own robots and aquariums with code

• Get introduced to block coding as you meet all the inhabitants
• Design your own aquarium with different sea creatures, props and music
• Help Gillie the goldfish move through the maze to collect treasure
• Learn sequencing, pattern recognition and critical thinking
• Design different types of robots with code
• Use “tilt” events to program a robot game
• Use “tap” events to code your robots to dance and wave
• Navigate the robots through a maze to collect power cells
• Learn flexible sequencing as you solve the same puzzle in different ways

• Help 8 endangered animals reach their homes in four biomes
• Detect patterns and apply coding techniques to navigate a path
• Use the “wait” command to avoid obstacles
• Use numerical loops and block parameters to travel through complex trails

Tynker is a complete learning system that teaches kids to code. Kids begin experimenting with visual blocks, then progress to JavaScript, Swift, and Python as they design games, build apps, and make incredible projects. Over 60 million kids around the world have started coding with Tynker.

Computer programming is an important 21st century skill that kids can start learning at any age. While coding with Tynker, kids apply skills such as critical thinking, pattern recognition, focus, problem solving, debugging, resilience, sequencing, spatial visualization, and algorithmic thinking. The Tynker visual language makes it easy for them to learn and apply concepts like conditional logic, repetition, variables, and functions – the same coding concepts used in any mainstream programming language such as Swift, JavaScript or Python.

Limited app so far, excited to see how it evolves

First of all, I do think I should note that I was hoping since I had purchased a lifetime subscription on my Tynker computer app that I’d have the option to log into this app and it carry over. That would be a nice perk for those of us who have shelled out $200 for the full version.

I’d like if there were words on the screen and not just a voice over for the prompts. My kids aren’t always somewhere that volume is acceptable (though one of my kids is blind and certainly loves the descriptions). And I have friends with deaf kids, and I know accessibility goes a long way, since being deaf shouldn’t be a barrier in learning to code.

I think having a leveling system, similar to the online version, would be a great motivator for my kids to want to continue to attempt the other apps without getting bored. For the record, my kids are 4,6,7, and 8, so exactly the demographic this app is aimed for.

I know this is new, so I’m just giving suggestions as you guys warm up into the app game world. I’ll keep checking back on updates to see what you come up with. :)

Cute characters the kiddos love

Cute characters and lovely graphics disguise surprisingly complex coding concepts. Must admit I sat and played through all the levels before the kiddos even got their hands on it! Love that blocks are provided so no guessing or searching. Seems like the perfect level of difficulty for kindergarten ages.

Miss leading

I thought since I signed up for a monthly subscription I would continue to advance through the levels and games once I finished. Instead it told me I had to go to the website and PAY again for further games and lessons. That version won’t even work on my iPhone so what’s the point of keeping it. Glad I tested it first.
