Love love love!

As fat person who did so many sports as a kid burning myself out, trying to be/maintain a small body and thinking I couldn’t be exercising well enough otherwise this is a breath of fresh air! Seeing more bodies that are big exercising, being teachers is amazing. I love that they remind me to breathe, go at my own pace, and have fun because not that long ago I was burning myself out doing the opposite of all 3. Yes, even trying to hold my breath to an extent because I thought if I while I was trying to hard positions that breathing heavily meant my body was wrong and was embarrassed. I thought it meant I was too fat. I thought so many things meant that I was too big. Thanks to HAES and body positive movement and teachers like these I’m finally healing my relationship with my body and getting back into exercise in a way that fits me. Hope to see this become the way of mainstream exercise.

Exactly what I was looking for!

Thank you so much Joyn! I have been searching for a fun way to take care of my body through movement, free from the confines of diet culture, ableism, and fat phobia... definitely a tall order. Well, I think I have finally found that rare gem in Joyn! I LOVE seeing the diversity of trainers and movement demonstrators. The selection of videos offers something for every mood, ability level, and movement need. As a quadriplegic woman and psychologist who works with folks recovering from disordered eating and body image, I’m so excited to be able to recommend this app to my clients and friends! For folks who have chronically experienced trauma and exclusion because of their bodies, there are very few safe spaces to reconnect with their bodies through movement. I believe Joyn is one of those safe spaces 💜💜💜

Service: 5 stars // App: 4 stars

I adore Joyn. The concept of movement for myself and not punishment, or guilt is still a struggle. But I’m grateful for the way in which these instructors have brought energy and healing to my fitness journey.

The app itself could use a little more tweaking to make the user experience better in terms of searching. Instead of having the workouts lumped into their categories, perhaps add a list of instructors with their work and the ability to bookmark them would make it easier to resume progress. I’m diggin’ Kanoa’s Focus Power series, but the search function doesn’t seem to narrow the results even with the series number (i.e. Focus Power 3.2) added. Should I just add all 18 in the series to my favorites so I don’t have to shuffle through all of the entries every time I log on? It’s a minor inconvenience for a great free service, but a consistent one.
