Meet Canvas, the fastest, easiest way to create a scale-accurate 3D model of a room or home — all from your iPhone. 3D capture now fits in your pocket, and it's as easy as taking a video.
Instead of capturing one measurement at a time, Canvas captures thousands per second, and then combines them into a single 3D representation of the space — with color. You can view your 3D model from any angle, measure between any two points, and revisit it any time — in-app or via the Canvas Web Viewer.
Our Scan To CAD service takes your 3D model one step further: for a small fee per model, you can convert your scans into editable, professional-grade CAD files and jump right into design, quoting, or other planning in a variety of industry-standard programs. It's the easy button for creating as-built 3D models and 2D drawings.
Scan To CAD can output a .skp, .dwg, rvt, .ifc, .plan, .dae, or even a 2D .pdf file from your scans, which can be imported into many major CAD programs like SketchUp, Revit, AutoCAD, Chief Architect, and more. From there, you can make structural changes, change materials and decoration, and even create high-quality 3D renders. If you just want to use the scan from Canvas, you can always export it easily as a .obj file.
Canvas is the ideal companion app for design-build firms, general contractors, architects, interior designers and decorators, DIY enthusiasts, and more. Here's what consumers and professionals alike are already saying about Canvas:
"Canvas allows us to bring the job site back to the office." - Kyle Meyer, Black Timber Builders
"It allows me to take on more clients than I would otherwise be able to." - Noz Nozawa, Noz Design
"Given that just about every other project starts with as-built modeling, it's easy to see how Canvas can be a game changer." - Mark Harrison, SketchUp
"I was able to use the 3D model from Canvas to raise a possible installation issue to my contractor, avoiding at least 2 months of delay." - Mike Balzer, Homeowner and DIYer
"I don't know what you all did differently with this application, but it FAR exceeds anything I've ever seen before. You've taken computer vision to a whole new level, and completely blown my expectations out of the water.” - Mike McLaughlin, 3D Scanning Enthusiast
Canvas on iPhone will yield the most accurate, highest-quality results with the LiDAR sensor available on the iPhone 12 Pro, iPhone 12 Pro Max, but can be used with any iPhone 7 or higher with some limitations. Canvas can also be used on the latest iPad Pro with LiDAR, and the iPad app has even more features for professionals scanning regularly.

New in Canvas 0.4.9:
- Minor bugs were fixed
Now supports iPhone 12 Pro with LiDAR! It delivers higher quality scans with 5x better accuracy (1-2% average error). LiDAR scans are processed right on device within 30 seconds.
With the brand new texturing you get crisp, high fidelity scans so you can always revisit the space virtually.
Interested in InstaCAD for getting simple CAD models and floor plans right after capture? Let us know in the app how you'd like to use this unique feature.
As always, many UX improvements and bug fixes were done.
Canvas Home is now named Canvas to avoid naming confusion. This app is best for iPhones while the original Canvas gives more features to professional users on iPads.

Good but Could Be Better
This app works really well. Scans can be a little grainy and lacking sometimes in detail. I would give it a 5 rating if you could combine scans to get a more detailed scan of a room. I suppose I’m also just used to total station Lidar scans that you can have combined scans that also merge data points to give a more detailed scan.
Overall, a great app for a phone. It’s crazy how far we’ve come that we can now do this on a cellphone.

Hello! You actually can combine scans as part of the Scan To CAD service — drop us a line at email@example.com if you'd like to learn how. As for combining into one scan, that can make the scan harder to work with and look even grainier or less detailed, but we are going to be adding an exploratory mode as well for LiDAR-enabled devices. If that answer satisfies you, we'd love to see you update that review to 5 stars ;)
Unusable results, unbearable interface
Like many of those who jumped into that LiDAR fad, I’ve had luxury to devote my time to investigating the available 3D scanners on my my new iPhone. Ultimately, this app went to my folder named “crap” very fast. I’m not going to mention any solutions to avoid marketing, but there are applications that allow you to use non-LiDAR equipped devices to capture what this app is doing but with many more other options unavailable here. For example, you capture the world around you from one spot and you can’t really teleport within the space (technically you can but there will be too many artifacts making the output unusable). In other solutions, you can capture the space from different spots to then teleport more freely. In short, this app doesn’t seem to be employing 3D scanning affordances well, if at all.

One star - ouch! We'd love to understand what happened with your experience to see what could have been done better. If you could email firstname.lastname@example.org, we'd absolutely be happy to help. From your review, it sounds like maybe you might have been looking for a virtual tour creator (which fills in the artifacts/holes with photos), which Canvas isn't really intended to create, and as you point out, you don't need LiDAR for at all (Canvas works without LiDAR too, by the way). We aim for Canvas to be the best way to create a 3D model of a home which can be used for measurements, and transforming the 3D scan data into different architecture and design program formats to be able to edit and manipulate. If we are able to help or it does turn out that you were using Canvas for something it wasn't made for, we'd love to see you update that review :)
Loved the iPad app, excited for iPhone
I’ve been using the Canvas iPad app for years to scan rooms and homes. Can’t believe this fits in my pocket now. I was able to scan a room in like 20 seconds, and I could take any measurement off the scan right in app. Love that they allow you to process the data into different CAD formats for pros, and love the web viewer for easy sharing. I can’t wait to try this on my iPhone 12 Pro in the mail and use its LiDAR sensor for increased accuracy vs my iPhone X.
