Description

The Medal of Honor Grove pays tribute to the Medal of Honor Recipients. We offer a virtual tour and scavenger hunt.

The Medal of Honor Grove is located on the campus of the Freedoms Foundation at Valley Forge. It is a 42-acre natural woodland and is designed as a living memorial to over 3,500 recipients of our nation’s highest military decoration, the Medal of Honor. A section of the Grove is designated for each of the 50 states, including our territories Puerto Rico and the District of Columbia. Each Medal of Honor Recipient is identified by a stainless steel marker with the name and military organization of the Recipient and the date and location of the act of valor. The recipient’s name is also inscribed on the state obelisk of which he/she entered service.

Once the user downloads the app and opens it on their device, they are presented with a home page, where they can read about the Grove and go directly to the website. Users can also go to the Links Page, where they can access the Grove’s various social media in an in-app browser.

The third page of the app is the map, where users can view a full map of their location and all of the inputted locations within the program. Each location is labeled with a red marker and can be clicked on to view more information. If the user is at the location, they can click on the camera icon button to open a QR scanner. Once the QR is scanned, it will open up the information for the location. If the app recognizes that the user is within a short distance to the location using a location comparison algorithm, the app will alert the user if they wish to see the information. The information page for each location contains the description from the website and the ability to hear it using text-to-speech.

The last page of the app is the scavenger hunt. The user will be shown the information for each location and the location name and will try to find the location. Once they find the location with the information, they scan the QR code of the location and a success page is shown. The user then has the ability to continue to the next location or share their findings on social media by taking an image of the location.
