Discover your true cycling potential

Pillar is a new personalised coaching app that uses AI and world-leading sports science to create tailored training programs.

Welcome to Pillar!

We're a small UK-based team (full of real athletes) who are developing an app dedicated to all areas of cycling training. Whatever pains you can think of related to your training, we want to solve them.

Pillar is still at an early stage. The first feature we've built is an adaptive training plan. Pillar will generate a dynamic training plan for you based on your fitness, availability and training goal.

CUSTOM TRAINING PLANS
Get your personal training plan based on your goal, your training level, and availability. Whether you want to climb a mountain or compete in an upcoming sportive, Pillar will give you the right training plan to get there.

Move sessions around if you can’t make a certain day, or don’t feel up to it.
Add days you’ll be away or unable to train in advance. Have your programme tailored to you, and not the other way around.

PERFORMANCE ANALYSIS
Check out your performance condition, including metrics such as readiness score, freshness, and training load, as well as your power curve, to get a better idea of where you are in your journey towards your goal.

JOIN CHALLENGES
Join challenges that suit you, such as a monthly distance goal. Track and share your progress with your friends, whether they use Pillar or not.

WORK TOWARDS YOUR GOAL
Be at your best for your upcoming event or personal goal.

Further down the line (but not too far - think months), we've got huge plans.
The Pillar team is creating features such as a dynamic nutritional plan, in-app 1-on-1 coaching, a place for clubs and communities, training rewards, and more.

What’s New

Version 1.0.13 (2021101992)

> New Training Plans
We know that not all of your goals will be event-based. You might want to improve specific areas of your cycling, such as climbing or sprinting. Have a look at the 'training goals' section in the performance tab of the app, and you'll find these new packs to help you with your specific goals.

> Integration with Wahoo
As well as Strava and Garmin, you can now connect up with Wahoo to sync your rides to Pillar. For current Pillar users, you can find this by going to your profile and selecting 'connected platforms'.
Once connected, activities from Wahoo will be automatically synced with Pillar and you'll get notification when they arrive.

> Power to weight graph
We've added these new graphs to help you visualise your threshold power to weight ratios. This can be found under the threshold section of the performance analysis tab.

> New easy to follow display for sets and reps.

Great Idea, But Not Ready

I like the idea of a training app that will evaluate my current fitness, create a personalized training plan, and then modify the plan as I go. That’s what Pillar promises to be. Sadly, it does not deliver. I was a beta tester, so I’ve been trying to use this app for quite a while. During that time, there were some minor improvements, though the interface is still awkward. But somehow the developers decided it was ready for distribution without fixing major flaws that make it unworkable.

For instance, Friday afternoon I open the app and am told that my upcoming workout is Thursday’s workout. Or I complete a ride and go to manually pair it with the planned workout, but my only choice is the workout from the day before. The “unpair” function doesn’t simply unpair a ride and workout, it deletes your ride from the app completely. And be careful how much time you say you are available to ride. I first said I was available 3.5 hours per day. Pillar’s first workout was a 3.5-hour endurance ride—this despite the fact that my longest ride in the previous 3 months was about 1.5 hours. If you do a Pillar-planned workout that is harder than your average, the app will then warn you that the workout was too hard.

If you like the idea of the app, maybe give it another year and see whether the developers can get their act together. Me, I’ve wasted enough time on this. The developers don’t seem to be making any progress, and releasing the app now tells me that they are unwilling or unable to create a workable program.
