BandMaster is like having a whole band in your pocket. You get bass, drums and piano, great sounding samples and several styles for each instrument. Song creation is a snap with the available templates. Now you can practice on your own schedule and get that solo down for real.

Your songs are displayed in the song list from where you can launch the playback or edit views. The playback view displays your song's chords in a grid that scrolls down and highlights each measure as it is played. You determine the speed and number of chorusses as well as the style. If you like, you can also turn off any of the instruments. You can even have your band's logo as the background for the playback view.

New songs are created with one of the many templates available. These include exercises and Blues as well as Jazz standard forms of different lengths. Once created songs can then be edited in the edit view. This view gives you full control over the chords in your song. You can add and delete measures, transpose the song or switch to a different time signature. With the unique Expand to Form tool you can create any ABA or AABA form in record time.

A metronome might still come in handy, but practicing with BandMaster is much more to the point and more importantly much more fun and productive. Maybe you need to get a better handle on that Blues in Ab or a brief warm-up with Giant Steps. With BandMaster on your iPhone or iPod touch just pop in those earphones and get going wherever you are. Soloing is an art, but only practice makes the master and for that one should have the right tools.

athroshus rip off

The tempo of the drums doesn't even stay in beat....I'm a song writter and I can't even use the drums they go off beat like a bad drummer in a band the sample on u tube sounds good but that's not the way it sounds when you buy it they must of just played a recording of real instruments ....not of the app .... I can't believe I paid 15 bucks for this useless app .... I hope apple will find a way to credit or refund my 15 dollars. I buy a ton of stuff all the time I hope someone with apple will reconize the amount of money I've sunk into this iPod and make up for this loss......this app is a piece of crapola I give it minus 5 stars

Fantastic App

I use BandMaster every day and man, am I glad they made it. Besides Mail and Safari this is the app I use most often. There is really nothing out there quite like it. Rhythmically it is right on the money - steady like any better metronome application and the sound quality is great. I actually prefer it over BIAB.
The interface is laid out very thoughtfully into three main areas - the song list, playback screen and edit screen. Each of these have their own set of tools. The template->edit approach makes a lot of sense on a tiny device like the iPhone and editing in general is very well implemented. Editing operations like insert, cut and paste are animated, so you see exactly what went where. I originally got this app for when I'm away from home but lately I find myself using it more and more even when I could run BIAB. So - yeah - get yourself a copy. For what it's worth BandMaster has my highest recommendations. It's worth every penny.

Great start! But......

Pretty easy to input changes using cut and paste, especially on AABA forms. Tempo is a little shakey on the first couple beats, probably because it's loading. Then the time is fine. Sound quality is good. Instrument mixing is smooth and responsive with the piano, bass, and drum volumes. Style choices are nice. The screen layout is 1 bar per line, the scrolling is fine with looking at the changes while playing with it. The walkin bass lines consist of arpeggios going up the chord. R, 3, 5, 7. Piano plays only on the beats you put it on. So if you put the chord on beat 1, that's all you get. Hopefully they can put some sort of comping patterns in with a couple of other bass paterns for variety. LOVE the program regardless. Works great and easy to use. I like using the drums only for teaching lessons.
